Hi everybody
On IMDB.com I found a listing for a ghibli 15 min film called Mei and The Kitten Bus. It also says that its only been shown in the ghibli museum but there are loads of screen dumps on google. Does anybody know where I can get this cartoon? Perfurably to download but I'd be willing to buy it.
Thanks
Dan

I'm not sure, but I think I've read somewhere that Miyazaki said "you'll have to come to the museum to see it."
Remember, I'm not sure. And I forgot what it is.

It was a short film only shown for a limited time at the Ghibli museum. So I don't think you can get it anywhere else.

The short is exclusive to the Ghibli museum. ALL the museum shorts are exclusive ONLY to the museum's mini-cinema, and CANNOT be seen anywhere else.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but we all want to watch them too.

No, but I know how to get there, its just I'm useless with
directions and will end up in the woods and killed by spirits.
THat's what I think, that spirits live in woods and when a hopeless lost person like me comes they play tricks on me.
I'll show 'em. Heh heh heh.
But I know what it looks like.

I've actually heard that tickets to the museum are pretty hard to come by, since they limit the number of people that are allowed in each day. And, most of the tickets go to elementary schools for school trips. If you are going to Japan, I suggest trying to get a ticket way in advance for a day that you know you can go.
Or maybe I just dreamed this all, and none of it is real.

That sucks. I have a Mei and the Kitten Bus calendar that my Japanese friend sent me. I could possibly scan the images, sometime.
It's hard to believe that they're not on the internet somewhere. But maybe they aren't. : (

They're not. The museum bans ALL forms of picture or video taking devices in the studio, including cellphones. Only stuff we can see in the studios are stuff that the press had been allowed to take, or pictures GHibli has released themselves.

I've been to the Ghibli museum when i went on holiday to Japan just over a year ago. It is not very hard to get tickets, it just they only allocate so many tickets for non japan residents per day. So you have to buy them in advance before you go. The ticket are kinda cool to, they have 3 film frames of one of the movies as part of them.
Well worth going to the museum. At any one time there is 3 (i think, was a year ago ) shorts you can choose to watch, but you are only allowed to see 1 per visit.

silly me, when i went to japan i thought i could just drop in to studio ghibli while i was wandering about. was puzzled when it wasn't in any of the tourist/guide books. so i asked my cousin, who has lived in tokyo for 15 years, where it was. it was then i found out you need to get tickets way in advance, so no hope of me going there. and then he casually mentioned he had been there, he did translating for an australian author who had wanted to meet miyazaki. they went to the studio, thinking miyazaki would not be there, or if he was, they would not be able to see him, but meet him they did. my cousin couldn't work out why i was so excited by this (he;s not into anime at all) and would only say "oh, he seemed quite friendly." 8] how cool is that.

Ive went to the museum just last week and am going again day after tomarrow. ^_^ (I live in the tokyo area currently)
The place is a dream come true! Your inner child will be awakened in ways you wouldn't think.
At first I was dissapointed that they didnt allow pictures or footage in the museum, though thats not uncommon with museums... Then I read an english language booklet brochure. Other museums wont let u take pictures because its damaging to the artwork over time, but for the Ghibli Musium the real reason is because they want you to experience the place with your own eyes not through the lense of a camera. I thought this was such an awesome reason to not allow photos in the museum.
The main reason they limit the number of people in the museum at a time is because they want to maintain a comfortable atmosphear were people dont feel crowded or sufficated like so many other places in Tokyo.
The greatest exibit in the museum is the museum itself. Unlike other museums were its just some big fancy building to house paintings were the greatest importance is placed on the paintings not the people, the ghibli museum is the opposite.
The Ghibli museum is the actual exibit desguised as a building. It's like walking into one of the movies and being able to touch and feel it for yourself... to feel the cool wind and explore discovering all sorts of amazing things.
One feature in the museum i Loved was a series of about 300 statues of My Neighbore Totoro chatacters. There was Satsuki playing jump rope with Mei and a blue totoro with lots white totoros the big one, a girl on a unicycle and lots of other creatures. Looking at the statues initially its hard to tell but each one is slightly different from one another.
Going a few feet to your left you discover a large cylindrical device with all the same statues aranged in circles along suddenly the device starts spinning in circles untill everything is a blur... then suddenly a stobe light starts flashing and all the staues come to life animated via stop motion real time!!! Its so amazing to see! little white totoros are scampering about mei jumping rope... it almost seems creepy because you'd think it that should'nt be possible but there it is. :D
I was sad that you can only see the short films at the museum but if they made them available to every one then the museum would loose a certain unique quality to it. it sort of feels special know your one of a select few who get to see these films. ^_^ I saw the whale hunt film while I was there though the nature of this film seemed much more for a younger audiance and not in the style of Ghiblis normal movies. I'm hoping to see a new one when I Go again, and plan to keep going untill ive gotten to see them all. ^_^
The 3 frame tickets look gorgeous too and make for great treasures to keep long after youve left. They have film books of each of the shorts available in the library were you can purchase them for 400 yen each (Lil over 3 dollars). They also have many other books available that they consider to be recomended reading for children that inspire and teach them about the artistry of the world around them. There are many small doorways sized just for children, indeed they are treated just like the adults as the brochoure says. ^_^
I almost wondered into the womans rest room by accident because it looked like it was leading to another exibit, even the bathrooms were works of art! I hurried out blushing worried that i was seen. ;o
The huge Cat bus exibit is sadly only for children to play on. Youll wish you were a child again so you can jump into the fun. ^_^ There are hundred of stuffed dust bunnies all around that room. Some kids try to stack them all up, some try to throw them out of the bus others are trying to gether them... what u eventually realize though is that the children themselves become part of the exibit for the adults to look upon fondly. ^_^
The series of drawing rooms (artist desk) are an artist's dream, with tons of original wattercolor sketches pinned all over the walls. there are toys, dolls of witches, books on fossles photo books of european lands far away, lush green forest and gardens. all the sorts of referance material the ghibli artist use when creating their masterpieces... not only do they show you the inspiration of the artist they show you the different stages of the animation too from concept art to story boards to cell creation to the actual animation process!
right now they have an exibit of Goldilocks and the 3 bears. they have life size rooms done up from the perspective of goldilocks. The Papa bears chair is huge even to a grown man... his bowl of food was filled with berries and nuts of all colorful sorts... the spoon in the bowl was a big as a sword with the spoon tip big enough to wear like a helmat... I know, I tried it on. ^_^
I only recently learned that they have the soundtracks to their shorts available in the Mama Aiuto shop that ill be sure to pick up next time.
The cafee area is a very relaxing atmosphear that even has a wood burning stove. The Laputa robot on the roof is in scale and absolutly huge! You can perfectly imagine standing next to it how Shita and Pazu must have felt like in its pressence.
This museum is litterally a dream world were you can intereact with just about every thing... oh as for the photos. I normally dislike museum photo books they sell in the gift shops because they always lack the details i found interesting and wanted to take a picture of. Not so here the artist were more than smart enough to take pictures of even the smallest details so you'll feel fairly satisfied picking up a couple for yourself and your friends. ^_^
The tickets arnt too hard to get ahold of if you buy them for days falling in the middle of the week. the weekend ones are more difficult to come by because of course every one wants to go during the weekend. thats why they reserve a few for foreigners, but if you'r Japanese is sharp enough or you have a local Japanese friend then its much easier to procure the tickes... they have 4 entrance times but you can stay as long as you want up to closing time. ^_^
I deffinatly recomend every and all people going to visit Japan go and experience this wonderous place for yourself too. ^_~
