It's... a messed up series. A look at the opening tells me that much, and the lyrics further strengthens the fact. Dunno why I even bother continue watching it.
To summarise, it's like Azumanga Daioh, except you have to be a real anime and manga otaku to even make sense of the jokes, or you'll just be lost in confusion. Even if you are a major otaku, it somehow still doesn't make total sense.

Well, it wasn't supposed to become popular. It was just a little comic at first. And then exploded. I find it rather confusing and things. My sister watched it and didn't even understand it.(Wait, she never understands anything. I always end up telling a large explanation. Wait....Where do I get my research from? That's a question my cuz asks me. Now her friend has a weird obsession with me, Hatsuharu, and cows.)
Is it a moe type anime? I'll need to look at it sometime. I only did a little research on it. It does look cute, but it has no plot. Then only anime I've watched that I thought was insanely adorable and as short was Bottle Fairy. Hm, might as well.*shrugs*

To put it simply, it's something only a hardcore otaku can really appreciate, because it takes its jokes from scenes from various anime and games, funny takes on even the most mundane of life, that kind of stuff. And you need to have a pretty good understanding on the japanese culture as well as their school culture to appreciate the other half of their jokes.
All in all, the average watcher will never be able to understand.

My daughter just happened to have Word Up by Cameo playing in the room while that gif was running and the dance is dead on the beat. Great fun.

My explanation wasn't clear, I was hunting for a certain word but couldn't then.
Anyway, a clearer example: Lucky Star is a collection of spoofs and in-jokes.
