Hey everyone!
Not long ago I bought a copy of Steamboy which was reccommended to me by several friends. Unfortunately I was really disspointed with it. Visually it was very impressive but there were way too many cheesey one liners in it. Also it felt badly westernised. Action should never come before plot in my opinion.
Compared to the likes of action films such as Laputa if really lacked the charm factor. There wasn't one point where I felt moved, which in anime is very important for me as a viewer.
Sorry if I've offended anyone by this. It's the director for Akira so it was a big let down when I saw it.
If anyone wants to give their opinion on the film please do

i was happy with it - it wasnt a amazing film it was just average - i think the director wanted to make it really successful in the west (like Akira) so made it how us westeners like films - but not us lol - also im my opinion Ghibli films are the best and finest anime films made no one can do better
i think your view was a bit negative - it had some nice action scenes and a decent plot but just didnt quite get it right - but hey mabey ur expectations were too high
i would giv it *** 3 stars (average/good)

I agree with your analysis Omis. Steamboy was heavily hyped because of who was making it but it flopped badly IMHO. As you say, it feels like a Western cartoon and also feels seriously over-produced, too pretty, too slick and lacks plot and character depth.
I enjoy watching it, the Victorian railways etc are nicely done but its no favourite of mine.

I've not seen it myself, but that's pretty much what I've heard. Plenty of money spent on it, but not enough effort.

That sums it up well. Its true of a growing slice of the anime industry too, these days, sadly.

Sorry for being overly negative people. You're right tho Lupin it wasn't a bad film and my expectations were too high. What can I say.... I'm spoiled by Ghibli. Bless em
What frustrated me though was that I really enjoyed Akira so my hopes were high. Yes Akira is too graphic i places. e.g. Tetsuo's guts pourig out but it still had depth, more depth than Steamboy should have had.
Can't win them all....
