1. age? 16
2. gender? Guy.
3. what attracted you to anime? Ghilbli films, never really clicked with animes seriously before.
4. which do you prefer, hand draw (like early ghibli) or CGI (final fantasy) techniques? Both really, if it's not rushed.
5. do you think CGI anime is a good thing or a bad thing? If there is a decent plot and characters CGI is fine.
6. can you see hand draw techniques disappearing with the replacment of CGI? I don't think so, CGI will get more popular but there will always be a place for hand drawn.
7. what do you look for in anime films? Story and characters.
8. are you attracted towards western film makers attempts of anime? Never come across any except Digimon when I was younger but I'm not sure if it's western or not lol...
and do you think they should explore this genre? Yeah why not.
9. are you still into anime as much as you were when you first discovered it? Dude. I only just got interested in it lol. 8]

1. age
- 14
2. gender
- Female
3. what attracted you to anime?
- My mum bought a Studio Ghibli film one day, just on a whim really, and then I got into Studio Ghibli and joined this forum, then I started researching anime, and I guess mainly due to the discussion that was taking place here I started looking at specific series just out of curiosity and... I was hooked on anime.
4. which do you prefer, hand draw (like early ghibli) or CGI (final fantasy) techniques.
- Hand drawn.
5. do you think CGI anime is a good thing or a bad thing?
- Neither really. I certainly can't see it having a negative impact in any way.
6. can you see hand draw techniques disappearing with the replacment of CGI?
- Definitely not. I think there will always be preference for the traditional style.
7. what do you look for in anime films?
- For me, great characters are just as important, if not more important, more than a great plot. I'm a bit of a fangirl so attractive guy characters always score points with me lol.
8. are you attracted towards western film makers attempts of anime?
and do you think they should explore this genre?
- I don't think it's a good idea for western filmmakers to attempt to replicate anime styles. I feel that anime is something fundamentally 'eastern' and should be left up to professionals so to speak.
9. are you still into anime as much as you were when you first discovered it?
and if so why?
- I'm becoming more and more into anime all the time I think. Animes all seem to have a certain amount of originality and uniqueness that many western TV series seem to lack these days. I've yet to find an anime that I really haven't enjoyed.

1. age
19, as of this morning
2. gender
Male
3. what attracted you to anime?
Toonami
4. which do you prefer, hand draw (like early ghibli) or CGI (final fantasy) techniques.
I think you can end up with a beautiful art style with either, while I enjoy the flashy effects of CGI when used properly, I don't think the early ghibli works are missing anything for not having used CGI.
5. do you think CGI anime is a good thing or a bad thing?
I think in the long run it's a good thing, ya sometimes people go over the top flashy with it, but ultimately it just means there are more options out there to express artistic freedom.
6. can you see hand draw techniques disappearing with the replacment of CGI?
I think there will always be people who use hand drawn techniques or at least keep with the style even if CGI help is used.
7. what do you look for in anime films?
The same things people look for in live action films, a good mix of story and action that keeps the fans interested, but of course with anime art style is also important and a good art style can mean the difference between crossing that line from good to amazing. And a sloppy, too flashy, or inappropriate art style can take it down a peg.
8. are you attracted towards western film makers attempts of anime?
and do you think they should explore this genre?
Yes, I think Avatar: The Last Airbender is a prime example of a western show that draws most of its influence from anime (specifically Miyazaki), and pulls it off well. It has both western and anime influences and I would love to see similar shows.
9. are you still into anime as much as you were when you first discovered it?
and if so why?
Yes, I guess I've just always liked everything about anime.

male
3. what attracted you to anime?
I like the artistic style, and the storylines tend to be quite good.
4. which do you prefer, hand draw (like early ghibli) or CGI (final fantasy) techniques.
Hand-drawn. CGI can be good if it's done well, but when it's used together with hand-drawn style, it can look out of place. So in general, CGI is difficult to get right.
5. do you think CGI anime is a good thing or a bad thing?
I'm indifferent really. As long as studios use it well, I'm happy with it.
6. can you see hand draw techniques disappearing with the replacment of CGI?
I hope not, as I prefer the hand drawn style. I think there will always be demand for old-fashioned animation.
7. what do you look for in anime films?
A clever plot, interesting characters and attractive art.
8. are you attracted towards western film makers attempts of anime?
Normally, no. If it's a parody, I don't mind, but otherwise it's often not too good.
and do you think they should explore this genre?
Within reason. I don't think that they should go out of their way and make a big deal out of it anyway, as that'll just build expectations which can't be met.
9. are you still into anime as much as you were when you first discovered it?
More so now. Even though I still don't watch a lot, I'm much more into it than I was back in the days of Dragonball Z.
and if so why?
Because I've discovered that it isn't just about unrealistic fight scenes in space.

What about the other CGI, you know the one that 90% of anime is created with these days?
You know, almost no-one hand draws anime any more. Miyazaki is one of the last ones doing it.

3. what attracted you to anime?
I was young. Any cartoon would be interesting. When I got older, I noticed the many effective anime styles and animation techniques. The story lines also became more of an interest.
4. which do you prefer, hand draw (like early ghibli) or CGI (final fantasy) techniques.
I don't really mind which. They're both really well done. CGI anime have really advanced through the last couple of years though. It's truly amazing!
5. do you think CGI anime is a good thing or a bad thing?
Well it deffinately made the hand-drawn animations obsolete in a sense, but it's good I suppose. It's much cleaner..
6. can you see hand draw techniques disappearing with the replacment of CGI?
Yes. I suppose. But I still think hand-drawing is still about these days. To be able to hand-draw something on your own would be incredible, don't you think?
7. what do you look for in anime films?
Story line. If the art is also pleasing to the eyes, and if the animation is fluent, it's a bonus.
8. are you attracted towards western film makers attempts of anime?
Hmm. Well I haven't really seen one. Avatar I never really got interested in, so I can't be sure.
and do you think they should explore this genre?
Well, I suppose. But anime is anime and it's a Japanese thing. So I don't really want that part to change so much.
9. are you still into anime as much as you were when you first discovered it?
I'm not so sure. I've been reading more mangas than I have watching anime the past year or so. But yes, I guess I'm still into it.
and if so why?
Like I've said, the styles are changing, and the Japanese are getting way better with the animating part. And the stories get more epic <3

Age- 13
Gender- Female
What attracted you to anime?- When I was younger, I was obsessed with a show called "Sailor Moon" and after the class was available as a fun outside of school yet in school class, I took it gladly. I learned... some of the techniques and always drew in the way that I had learned because to me it was easier. I must say though... I wasn't good, I didn't know that much and whatever. Later on, I got sort of interested in anime but where I came from it was pretty much shunned- probably because of the people that watched it. It wasn't until I came here that I really started watching any anime and yeah.
Which do you prefer? Hand draw (like early Ghibli) or CGI (final fantasy) techniques? - um... CGi or hand drawn is fine by me- but I find that hand drawn gives the anime a more natural feel and I rather prefer it. A tad...
do you think that CGI anime is a good thing or a bad thing? - I dunno... I'm not sure!
What do you look for in anime films? - Me being me, I like animes that have a slight comedic and light feel to them. Normally the art helps because it helps set the feel for it. Dark isn't for me! Call me strange.
Are you attracted to Western attempts at anime? - Actually, I don't recall seeing much.
And do you think that they should explore this genre? - it doesn't matter! If it's what they wanna do, then it's what they wanna do. It always bugs me when people claim that just because someone doesn't come from where they are they can't do certain things. Where you're from doesn't matter as long as you keep whatever you're doing true to the particular style that is traditional.
Are you still into anime as much as you were when you first discovered it? - I actually just recently discovered this stuff... but if you count about a month, more so.
And if so why? - I've found better animes and the stuff grows on me sorta.

1. age: 61
2. gender: male
3. what attracted you to anime?: watched cartoons all my life, kinda shifted oveer to anime... prefer many animated films to real life anymore...
4. which do you prefer, hand draw (like early ghibli) or CGI (final fantasy) techniques. : Always have prefered the earlier films for the warmth, I guess you'd say... It's like in the old, old cartoons, say Popeye, where every background was drawn in, then they went and started using a standard BG and just moved the action past it... never the same after that.. I think the same oges here...
5. do you think CGI anime is a good thing or a bad thing? : whether it's a good thing or not, it is here to stay...
6. can you see hand draw techniques disappearing with the replacment of CGI? : for the most part, yes...
7. what do you look for in anime films? Warmth, a good story line like "Whisper of the Heart", "Only Yesterday"
8. are you attracted towards western film makers attempts of anime? Sure, why not. The east and west both have many great artists
and do you think they should explore this genre? yes
9. are you still into anime as much as you were when you first discovered it? yes, I think so...
and if so why? just a love of the animated films...

Uhh... somehow that doesn't sound accurate. Actually, sounds far from it.
Digital colouring is the main difference between then and now, as well as facial movements, but otherwise, characters are still drawn by hand. It's only a question on what medium was used. A lot of artists now use tablets or pads to draw directly onto the screen because it saves paper and other resources.
Anyway...
1. 24
2. Male
3. Natural transition from cartoons, triggered by a classmate. Still watch both, anyhow.
4. If CGI refers to 3D like Pixar's, then I much prefer 2D just because I'm more used to it. 3D tries to look real too much.
5. It's just another medium. There's no good or bad about it.
6. No, because the drawing style you see in anime can only be achieved by hand-drawing anyway o.0 It won't disappear because it can't. If hand-drawing techniques disappear, so will anime. The two are inseparable.
7. The same as I look for in all films. Good storyline, plot, character development, etc etc.
8. In the strictest modern sense, anime is anime if it's made in Japan, according to western perspective. The moment it's NOT made in japan, it's not anime.
So... invalid question.
9. Same as always. Which isn't that much to begin with, anyway. Because it's a hobby. It's TV. 'Nuff said.
