Actually, I think HMC was in a different position. I know a lot of people like the film a great deal, and there was an effort to keep it alive. Theowne was pretty much spot on in his analysis. Howl was just caught on the wrong side of town.
If you'll allow a gang warfare analogy.

But even though, as arren says its hard to be angry at a film like Totoro winning, i dont think Totoro represents everything that is Ghibli. Such as the absense of the sort of adventure/dark aspects of Mononoke or Earthsea.
But still, as Roar pointed out, few people dislike this film, and as the game was structured so that the deduction of points was more significant than the adding of points..Totoro was always going to be up there.
Put it this way Totoro and WOH as the final two, Who would you vote for? I no i like WOH more than Totoro. If you had it so you could give one point per day to the movie you liked, over a month. I wonder what a different outcome that wold be

Actually I think Totoro is a fairly good representative for Ghibli. It came in at #4 in my personal top 5 I wrote. It has the same kind of innocence, charm, and idealism that characterizes quite a few of their films, including Whisper of the Heart.

I guess you could say it's more like a list of what people disliked the least, with Howl being hated the most and Totoro being hated the least.

I know what your saying because most of the Ghiblis follow that sought of idealistic escapist route, but it may not represent the darker films. But come to think of it, is there a Ghibli that can represent both of these? Maybe Howls, but as Mushka sought of said, he isn't nearly fluffy enough to be a proper logo, whereas, im glad to say totoro is

Jin, please be aware that posting again in a thread more than a couple of months old is considered poor forum etiquette. Also known as Thread Necromancy. I would expect this thread to soon be locked by the forum admins and if you re-open long dead threads much more you might find your account closed.
Other than that, welcome to the forums!

Cool your jets, Saddles. Clearly, Jin copied and pasted from the first post by accident, thinking it was an ongoing game. I think any mod would understand that it was a simple mistake.
So a more cheerful welcome! And also to Therru14, who also seems to be new, and who has a rather similar username to me!
