The disney ruin grave of the fireflies and totoro. the dub is poor and artificial. we know that disney cannot compete with the ghibli studio. so what do the american do best when they cant beat something? they buy them.

But the Disney frame rate is higher than the Ghibli frame rate, thus fluider animation...ughhhhh! I blame Disney (and Max Fleischer too) for making Americans think that any animation below 24 (or even 12) frames per second is poor, ugly, choppy, jerky, stiff, stilted, crude, cheap, ungainly...that's just ridiculous.
I agree about the whole dub thing--but Disney didn't release/dub Grave of the Fireflies (Central Park Media did, and their dub is okay) and the only dub available of Totoro is the excellent Fox dud, the best dub of an animated film I've heard so far (though it's pan and scan--we lose much in the brilliance of the visuals.) Disney will definitely release their own dub in the nest two years. It probably will not reach the level of excellence of the Fox dub.

Oh BTW, don't "damn Disney"--Studio Ghibli owes alot to the original studio (before Walt died.)

Just as Konan has said, neither Totoro nor Hotaru are released by Disney. The former is by Fox (Disney version is not yet released), and the latter is by Central Media.
You should be glad that Disney has signed the Tokuma deal. Before that, Ghibli was very much unknown to the West. You might not even know what Ghibli was if the deal had not ever existed. 
Yes, Americans buy something when they cannot beat it. This is in fact a common marketing and business strategy. But as long as it is benefitial to everyone, why should such a practice be blamed and condemned? Disney gains extra money, Ghibli gains worldwide popularity, and the audience of the west gains the chances of enjoying the masterpieces of animation. Everyone is happy and no one is harmed. 
From a broader sense, it was the Disney studio which revolutionized animation and gave it a new definition, by introducing feature-length and coloured animations, by adopting sophisticated animation processes, by improving the animation technology, by winnning the first academy awards for animations, and by proving that animation as a medium can be as successful as the live-action movies.
Disney was the inspiration of the earliest anime studios in Japan (like the one of Tezuka) and the other parts of the world. The works of which in turn inspired Miyazaki at his young age. If Disney and his company had never existed, Miyazaki would be just another salaryman (or terrorist  ).

Yeah... they didn't do too good with the subtitles on their early Miyazaki releases....
Heck, the only reason I watch the dub for Castle in the Sky is the soundtrack.

I don't find Disney's dubs to be all that bad....in fact, Spirited Away's and Porco Rosso's are pretty good. I think Disney's done a decent job. At least they got the films overseas for us Americans to finally enjoy.
I've never seen the dubbed My Neighbor Totoro, but I've heard Fox didn't do a good job. IGN ripped it to shreds in their review.
I usually watch films in their original languages anyway, with subtitles. I usually get used to reading the subtitles after a few minutes, to where it almost feels like they're speaking english.

The Disney dubs of Ghibli movies are actually pretty good. However, I really dislike how Disney can't come up with any of their own ideas for movies, so now they're putting their name on Ghibli movies to make themselves look good >_<.
