Totoro Bootleg?Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Search for Posts by ravl13 Report Post to a Moderator        IP Address Go to the top of this page

Hi,

I've purchased the 2 disc totoro set off a seller on ebay. It has the nice shiny yellow and blue slipcase that matches the picture here on the Amazon listing here. However, there are some things that make me suspicious:

*******

1) It has no inserts/papers inside. Just the two discs. Almost all DVD releases have paper junk inside. Mine does not.

2) My bonus (2nd) disc has the large word "BONOS" on it, which is a pretty glaring typo. The word "BONOS" appears over the NTSC 1 symbol on the disc

3) On the back cover, the sentence about Roger Ebert says:

...Roger Ebert calls"one of the very few...

(there is no space between the word 'calls' and the " (quotation mark symbol)

*******

Could someone please compare their version of the blue and yellow cover release, and tell me if they have the same errors?

Thanks,
-ravl13

Hi Ravl13, welcome to the Tavern...

I do not have one of these myself and hopefully someone else can help you with your question. Unfortunately, what you have is most likely a pirated copy of the movie. Disney usually does not issue items with these kinds of error. Many Ghibli items on eBay are pirated ones...

Again, welcome to the Tavern and we all hope that you will enjoy it in here...

Thank you for those scans!

With those, I definitely know I have a fake copy. Thanks, I'll return it for a refund.

While you are doing that you can report the seller for offering pirated goods. There's a feedback section on eBay for this. I do it frequently. I have no idea if it does any good but it certainly does no good if you don't do it.
