*sigh* Reading that article I can understand why Miyazaki didn't bother to attend the oscars when Spirited Away won the animated award. He's said in the past that he only makes his films for Japanese audiences and with the ignorant lazy oafs such as these at the academy, you can see why.

My takeaway from that is that all the voters did not see all the films, and some admitted it while others didn't.

Yet the film hadn't been released in the UK or USA at the time of being nominated, or through the process ?.

I'd like to think that maybe if it were, it would of had more of a chance, but it was Frozen and everyone seems to have gone mental over the film.

I saw Frozen, it was an average Disney movie, much like every other film they make now.

I haven't seen The Wind Rises yet, but would of been nice as Miyazaki's last film to win it, but he isn't too bothered.

The Oscars is for mainstream movies anyway, most of which are just pumped out for money and success, rather than to tell a story.

That's why I appreciate Studio Ghibli films, you can feel the love running through the films.

OK, I saw "The Wind Rises" tonight.

I thoroughly loved it... Artwork was superb, Storyline was slow, as to be expected in a bio-type flick... A lot of tears flowed on my part and I wasn't the only one in the theater dabbing at their eyes. Not the best Ghibli, no, but still a definite Ghibli... IMO. Soundtrack was typical Joe Hai... (forget the spelling). Some scenes very realistic, but dream scenes not necessarily, as is typical with dreams, right?

Now this was a dubbed film and a number of times it was obvious to the eye. Also, in a number of places the volume was low. I have a hearing loss from being a Gunnersmate in the Navy and I simple could not hear it even though the doctors said that my hearing loss is minimal. Also, the foreign language parts were a bit irritating because, unless you knew the language, you missed the dialogue. I am looking forward to getting my own Japanese language DVD
with sub-titles.

After a week in the theater there were only about 15 people in the audience, 3 of them preteen/teen. The rest were older folks, generally about 50+, more or less. One couple was in their 30's. After the movie was over, I took it upon myself to ask two couples why they had come to see the film. Both parties said because they had heard that this was to be the last Hayao Miyazaki film to be made and they wanted to see it. One party also added that because it was a Ghibli movie... I mentioned the Tavern to them all...
