I watched this film again last night (only the second time I've seen it), and it is truly amazing! As OYM said, Joe Hisaishi's music is beautiful, sweet and moving and completely mirrors the innocence of the two main characters.
Takeshi Kitano is hilarious in it, his slap stick and his comic timing are indeed a treat for those used to only seeing him in Yakuza movies.
The film is actually Kitano's take on The Wizard Of Oz! It is poignant, touching, funny...all you could ever want from a film!
Last night, I had a Takeshi night, watching 'Kikujiro', 'Gohatto' and 'Sonatine'. You tell me another actor who can convincingly pull off roles in a heart-warming comedy, a period drama, and a 'gangster' flick, and do absolute justice to all three roles?! The man is a legend and a genius, with a measured style unlike anyone elses! Takeshi Kitano is without doubt one of the greatest actors, and directors, and writers, of all time!
Anyone who loves movies should see this film...you won't be disappointed!
