If you want to see the rest of the film, you could just watch it on my weblog.
It's also important to remember that this film was made just as Japan's bubble economy had burst. Takahata is using this as an opportunity to ask his audience to reconsider their misplaced priorities. His nostalgia for Japan's rural past has been the dominant theme in all his films since Gauche the Cellist.

Here's a question,
This may seem stupid, but I've not been able to tell...In the movie, does Taeko like the pineapple, or is she just pretending to like it because she was looking forward to it so much?

40 years ago in Japan, they usually eat canned pineapple. Raw pineapples were unusual and expensive because they were imported from far tropical countries. Taeko’s father bought it from SENBIKIYA (very smart and famous fruit shop in GINZA) where fruits are all sold very expensive. So Taeko’s all family expected so much. But you know, pineapples are not very delicious. After that, they say bananas are more delicious and eat bananas. In those days, bananas was luxurious and not so inexpensive as well as pineapples. Generally all import goods were expensive 40 years ago in Japan. But soon Japan's rapid economic growth made yen very strong in exhange rate and prices of import dramatically came down.
I don’t think nowadays kids like bananas and pineapple very much.
