I perfer the subs most times, because it's like watching the original film as it was intended. I don't understand Japanese so I have to trust whatever English fansub or Disney subbing job they come up with.
When it comes to Dubs, they are great for one reason: kids! I know when I was little I would not have had the patience (or knowledge) to read subtitles! Two of my cousins have grown up watching all the Ghibli films released by Disney and are absolutely in love with them. Although, as a side note I will say that my brilliant 5-year-old cousin started reading the English subtitles at 4 and can now repeat some of the Japanese dialogue just from having watched so many times!

I dont mind the English Dubs
sometimes dubs are rubbish and ruin the film
but it seems that Studio Ghibli
really do the dubs well they pick the right actors
there were some big name actors for Princess Mononke
although FilmFour screwed up and ended up
showing the Japanese version I didnt mind
personally I love the language I wish I could speak it
lol and it aint the first time I have tried
But for people like my little brother who loves
the Studio Ghibli movies but has a problem reading
they are great
as long as the dubs are done well I dont mind em

I totally agree. It was a while before I realised that the subs were a whole lot better, but to begin with, I really couldn't be bothered.
Also, sometimes dubs are really dreadful and don't go with film at all, but in general, Ghibli ones aren't as bad as other anime dubs.

Dubs are nice casue you dont have to worry about reading and miss out on action. It is easier to listen and watch then listen watch adn read.

To be honest, I prefer watching dubs rather than subs. I have no idea why, but I've seen Princess Mononoke and part of Laputa in subs and some others (including those) in dubs and I found it easier to listen to English instead of reading the English while listening to Japanese. No offence, sub fans.
Which is why i watch both the dubs and the subs. The dub gives me a good idea, so I can better pay attention to the movie while watch subbs. But all in all, I like subbs more.

I definitely prefer subs, but often the first time I see something I watch the dubbed version, because I'm too lazy to begin with.

Sorry , Iam really new at this and need to pay more attention , ment to reply but made 2 new threads called dubbing instead.
My Wife , children and myself would not be able to enjoy these movies if it wasn"t for english dubbing.
My wife is not a cartoon type person but likes Kiki's as the rest of us we like them all and wish to have more thank you.
