Out of all the Ghibli Movies I've seen, I have to say I enjoyed Spirited Away the most! I am in LUV with that movie!!I got it the first day it came out on DVD!This movie just takes you away to another world that you just never want to leave!I absolutely LOOOVE this film! When I saw it won an Academy Award,I was so happy I was on the brink of tears!LOL!(I know it sounds silly,but it true)!!I hope to one day(if at all possible)work for Studio Ghibli.I love to draw,as specialy my favorite anime characters!Anyway I just wanted to say that if you haven't seen Spirited Away yet,I HIGHLY recomend it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Totally,
Mayazaki's movies are MADE to touch the heart and inspire thought. I too thouroughly enjoyed Spirited Away. I read up on at another website and it REALLY made me think (i'm sorry, but i can't remember what it's called....  ) but it said that Mayazaki tried to show how POWERFUL words are.
Like for instance, when Chihiro said, "I will work for you" rather than asking how to get home, even Yu-Baaba could not ignore her. And throughout the story, it plays on how little things (like asking No Face if he'd like to come along) made the biggest difference.
I also noticed that Chihiro/Sen didn't make many big speeches or anything, but what she DID say was always meaningful.
Spirited Away truly touched my heart and made me think differently. I highly recommend that you take a looksee if you haven't already fallen in love. and i paraphrase, ALL of Mayazaki's films are made to inspire anyone with an ounce of imagination.

Watch the movie in its original japanese form, its more than two times better.
The thing she said to yubaaba (and to kamajii, for that matter) was "Koko de hatarakasete kudasai", meaning "PLease let me work here".
Tho the part before Yubaaba blew here top, she said "Koko de hatarakitain desu!", meaning "I want to work here!"
See the difference in politeness and meaning? I didnt see the dub, but i bet it was different from what the original dialogue said.
Btw, Chihiro's speeches may be meaningful at times, but they werent intended. If u noticed, she's very blunt in her words.

Seriously, I have to completely agree with Roarkiller. Translated things just doesn't work for most things, whether they're books, films or song lyrics. Still, the English version was okay, although the voice of Chihiro really annoyed me.
Spirited Away was good. But in my opinion (so no-one jump down my throat ), I can't see all the deepness and things that touch your heart, as you all are saying. Maybe I am dry, but however many times I watch SA I can't get the same feeling as I did when I watched Laputa, for instance. I suppose it's partly because there was a lot less action... still, I loved the whole setting and the concept of another world.

I believe the script is included in "The Art of Spirited Away".
@Excalibur: Some things sound better translated. But for me, i juz prefer the original, just for art appreciation's sake. There's no such thing as translated art anyway.
Bout SA, its the emotional factor that got me, which is surprisingly amplified by the music. Hisaishi Joe's works really comes alive in this movie, and in Mononoke Hime too. But the #1 factor is still the simplicity of Chihiro's actions.

Spirited Away was a really good movie! I'm at least glad that Ghibli studio was able to show its movies to all of the countries! And I agree that the Japanese version for Spirited away is twice as good as the english because sometimes the english voice doesn't really make it sound good...(tell me if I dont make sense) B/c all my friends say that Chihiro sounded much more like a bratty-like kid w/ the english voice!
