S'long as you get the nutrients you need, does it matter what you eat? We have vegetarians now because we now know that stuff like tofu and other beans give us protein as well.
On those african tribes, the diet they have pretty much depends on what they have available. Actually, the diet for people everywhere in the world is the same. East Asians like me eat a staple of rice because that's what was available for us. Japanese eat a lot of seafood because, well, they're basically a peninsula surrounded by the ocean. The Red Indians eat beef because that's pretty much one of the few animals available for them.
Ultimately, it all depends on our choces, and whther we can control what we eat. You can eat all the meat in the world and still remain healthy if you practise some control and proper exercise, and you can be a vegetarian and still be a living wreck from not eating any proteins, or too little.
Believe it or not, carnivores sometimes eat grass, too. They don't do it often because they get those nutrition from the animals they eat. Similarly, we eat fruits because we don't produce vitamin C on our own, unlike some animals. Same reason why we don't really drink milk for vitamin D, because we get it from the sun anyway.

I agree to Roarkiller.
Most of the food we prefer are stuffs that we are exposed to, due to the fact that they are the ones available for us.
It could still vary from there, like: what's the family's social status, what's the provincial root in a certain country of that person and who are the people that person is hanging out with (that might influence him/her).
It's not a matter of like "im better than you because i've grown to like these and you don't", it's more of "you prefer that, i prefer this - because we don't live in the same circumstance, environment, availablity, weather/climate".
