And the speaker is Nanako, Taeko's sister, who is telling Taeko that Mom was angry with her for not showing up to the 'arranged marriage' meeting that Mom had set up, seeing as how Taeko is now 28yrs old and still not married...

I started thinking about the quote, did quite a bit of thinking, in fact... Then, suddenly, it hit me. I could only think of one place where that quote would fit.
