Hi folks, just joined. I've been a Laputa fan since 1993 and a Ghibli fan since Mononoke came out and I realised the two came from the same studio and there were loads of great movies.

A couple of years ago I wore out my VHS Laputa tape that I had recorded off the TV back in 1993. SO I set about looking for a replacement, which was the Japanese R2 DVD that has already been mentioned a few posts back.

I got my replacement DVD from CDJAPAN.

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=VWDZ-8014

This contained the original English dub, the so called 'streamline dub.'

I did enjoy the Disney dub in parts, as it added a bit of depth that was missing from the older dub. But I still prefer the older one. The soundtrack on the older is the same as the original release, and so doesn't have the unnecessary extra music that spoils the quiet parts (the add orchestra on Pazu's morning fanfair solo comes to mind).

Or just watch the Japanese language version and soundtrack with subtitles. No problems there.

Easier alternative, yes. But don't think that's the goal here...

  Still looking....

I'm still looking for the original english dub version I remember so dearly from my childhood.

The link someone posted back in 2007 to purchase the Japanese DVD says they're no longer stocked.

Has anyone had any luck obtaining a copy from anywhere?

Hello, snowise... Welcome to the Tavern... Hoping you will stay and post...

Personally, I can't help with you question but maybe someone else might...

Good luck and again, Welcome...

I assume the Japanese Blu-ray release contains the Disney dub?

My old video tape of the original 1986 English dub of Laputa has finally worn out, I've been trying desperately to find a copy on DVD or video but with no luck - all I can find is the recent Disney dub which I think is absolutely apalling. Does anyone know where I can get hold of a copy of the original 1986 version, my heart will break if I can't find it, it's my favourite film ever and the Disney version ruins it for me

Thank you!

Hey Frankie, I have still got a video tape of the version you are talking about from the first (and last) air date in 1992 I think it was. It is the best version..I missed the start section where Sheeta is on the airship but got the rest ok. Had this for years and still works!!
