question

Why is Princess Mononoke called San throughout the whole film? Is it just a nickname or something? Ha ha, yea, saying Mononoke over and over would get tough.
But what does San mean?--Sio<><

princess mononoke actually just refers her being the princess of mononoke the forest

so like... San is princess of Mononoke as to Diana is princess of Whales......

The forset isn't called Mononoke. Mononoke Hime was a nickname given for San by the humans. San is her real name.

lol... whales....wales... same difference

hmmmmm but mononoke does have something to do with the forest, might not be the name, but something to do with it.... i remember someone told me it actually means something... like cursed forest or something

mononoke dosen't have a deffinate English translation. if you did atemped to translate, it would be gohst/spirit/monster.

Mononoke is simply a kind of spirit/monster. The same way ghosts r sometimes called ghouls, spirits etc and they have names like trolls, poltergeists etc.

Hime means princes tho she's no princess herself. Hime is simply a title given by the villagers since she is like a princess (Moro is, according to the movie, a god and ruler of that forest after all).

San is juz a name gievn to her by Moro. The same way a mother would name her child. But why San, that is another totally different discussion.
