Posted by Loscil on 03.25.2008, 08:05 PM: What Movie(s) did you watch today? As I pointed out in some other thread, there isn't really a thread dedicated to non-anime movies in here. So I thought I'd make one.

Posted by Saddletank on 03.26.2008, 05:10 AM: Yes, Casino Royale was the best Bond movie in years. Daniel Craig was a far more gritty, earthy Bond I thought, less of a smart-ass playboy, more of a man. Interesting that for the very first time there will be a sequel. Trish will be very happy!

Posted by Orphic Okapi on 03.28.2008, 11:57 AM: I watched Juno yesterday, and it's deserving of all the hype. It's such a pleasant surprise to see a film both well-crafted and uplifting; usually the well-crafted ones are depressing, and the uplifting ones are so dull and formulaic that they end up being depressing anyway. Juno actually made me feel happy, and the end had me close to tears of joy. Ellen Page is a genuine talent, and the whole thing more or less succeeds because of her performance; the film would have been a disaster with a Hillary Duff or Lindsey Lohan in the lead. It helps, I suppose, that she's held up by all-around terrific supporting performances, but still, she carries the bulk of the film on her shoulders and never hits a false note. I gather she's been acting for some time, and her performance in Juno makes me very curious to see what else she's done up to this point. I'll definitely be following her career in the future.

Posted by Orphic Okapi on 03.29.2008, 10:03 PM: I just watched Michael Clayton. Excellent movie all-around: great plot, performances, dialogue, cinematography. The plot can be pretty confusing and disorienting at first, but if you just keep watching you'll start to figure out what's going on bit by bit, and after a while everything comes together into a tight, suspenseful, cohesive thriller. I don't know if Tilda Swinton deserved Best Supporting Actress, but she was very good, as was George Clooney. It was Tom Wilkinson, however, who stole the show in my opinion; he was very deserving of his Best Supporting Actor nomination, and maybe even deserved the win.

Posted by Tsuko on 03.30.2008, 09:37 AM: I watched Naqoyqatsi in the morning. The last of the Qatsi trilogy. It was rather good, though I like the first two better. Philip's music is brilliant as always. And now I've just finished Heat( for at least the 4'th time). De Niro and Pacino are just the best. Definately one of my favourite movies.
