Yeah...it was a really good movie, and Howl's hazy plot turned some people away. Me, I loved them both, but in different ways. And Howl's plot did leave me scratching my head, so......eh, whatever. You can't win 'em all, I guess. Maybe Miyazaki didn't go because he knew he wasn't going to win.

Lawson have updated their website with a report about an exhibition which is dedicated to the three new Ghibli shorts. In terms of information it's not really special, as it only contains some basic background info which was already posted in some of the other news post on GhibliWorld.com. However, it does contain some pictures of the exhibition. More info over here as usual:

Cheers,
Peter

Hi,

There's a lot of Ghibli news straight from Japan today and it's goooood!!! Earlier this week by Studio Ghibli announced a new project which will be released next to "Gedo Senki". This project is called "Taneyamagahara no Yoru" and will be the director's debut of background art master Kazuo Oga. Today more details about that project. But there's more news: Studio Ghibli have updated their website with more info about the NHK program "Professional" that will feature Toshio Suzuki. GhibliWorld has a trailer of it and that's not all, but let's just start with the best news...

Buena Vista Japan announced that Ghibli’s new project “Taneyamagahara no Yoru”, , will be released on DVD on July 7th in honor of the 110th anniversary of Kenji Miyazawa. The DVD will be released as a Ghibli ga Ippai Collection Special together with a new release of Takahata’s Gauche the Cellist which is also based on a work of Kenji Miyazawa.

There's a lot more, but you'd better check it out over here:

Regards,

Peter

More news on Studio Ghibli’s new project "Taneyamagahara no Yoru", “Gauche the Cellist” and to start off well for the weekend: the third of six dedicated specials to the Ghibli Museum Shorts!

Yesterday it was announced that Ghibli’s new project "Taneyamagahara no Yoru" will be released straight away on DVD on July 7th in honor of the 110th anniversary of Kenji Miyazawa together with Takahata’s “Gauche the Cellist” which is also based on a work of Kenji Miyazawa. This new release is good news because even though the former Japanese release did have English subs, the PQ wasn’t perfect, it didn’t contain very interesting extra’s and on top of that it has been out of print for some time now. Anyway, on my website the cover designs of both of the two new Ghibli DVD’s and also the links to pages where they happen to be up for pre-order now at Amazon.co.jp. Also, the third of six dedicated specials to the Ghibli Museum Shorts! Anyway, more info over here:
http://www.ghibliworld.com/news.html

Hope u like it!

Cheers,
Peter

29th of March, MORE ON MIYAZAKI'S CLOCK PROJECT: In the previous news post on GhibliWorld you could read some information on an enormous mechanism clock designed by Hayao Miyazaki himself. Today there’s a nice follow-up! Yesterday Ghibli posted a reminder that you should definitely not miss the "Zoom in SUPER" show of March 29th, because a detailed introduction would be broadcasted. Well, today it’s the 29th and my Japanese friend Takahiro provided me with some of the footage of the show. You can check it out over here: http://www.ghibliworld.com/news.html

Thanks for the clip Wushu. Lol, hate to say this about one of Miyazaki's designs...but that clock looks quite ugly.

13th of April, MORE ON GEDO SENKI:
It simply doesn’t stop! It’s time for a nice load of “Gedo Senki” news. First of all BVHE Japan announced their "2006 Ghibli ga Ippai Collection Summer Campaign" with a special “Gedo Senki” collectors item. Second of all Studio Ghibli has finally uploaded the first Gedo Senki trailer (like Nanashi posted above)! Third of all a translation of the Gedo Senki production diary with advice of Hayao Miyazaki and information that’ll give insight on how Gedo Senki is being made and what is being used as influence. And finally, Toshio Suzuki talking about the future of Studio Ghibli.

Please check out all the details over here:

Enjoy!

Konan, you'll be able to find the trailer for 'Ou To Tori' on its dedicated Ghibli website -http://www.ghibli.jp/outotori/trailer/
Its not up there yet, but I believe the small text reads something like "will be released in the next few days".

Thanks for the info Wushu, some of which is very interesting. One thing that I think you may have confused slighly though is the emphasis on the "Roman era". Of course it provides inspiration, but I think what Hayao Miyazaki really focuses on is 'Romanticism' -which indeed stresses one of his prime driving forces in directing, that of 'emotional expression'. The painters that Miyazaki recommends are those from this period and I believe this is the 'golden era' that he talked about.

I'd also like to talk about the significance of Suzuki's statements, but I think I'll save that discussion for another time in another thread.
