Anime Suggestions Please

Hi guys,

I want to get into anime more but I'm a little overwhelmed by all the choice of animes.

I like Death Note (which i got into through my bro), and Ouran Host Club and Fruits Basket which are on tv here. I also really like Eden of the East, i've seen all the eps but yet to watch the movies.

Have you watched Cowboy Bebop if not this is my first recommendation

if you have seen that then i would say Neon Genesis Evangelion

if you have seen that too then Ghost in the shell stand alone complex

deathnote would be next but you already have it

another one Monster

now if you have seen all of those that then here is my serial list

1.Paranoia agent
2.Future Boy Conan [although old ]
3.Planets
4.Baccano!
5.Samurai Champloo

now i have not seen all of them[last five, they are in my watchlist].But i can guarantee about the first 5.

Cal, I'd recommend The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, at least the first series and the movie, The Disapperance of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Anything by Satoshi Kon or Makoto Shinkai.

At first I mistook this for the thread looking for kid-friendly anime and was a bit concerned to see Satoshi Kon mentioned!

Anyway, as for actual suggestions... I'll second a few that have come up already, like Evangelion (I'm not a fan, but I think it's something you need to see for yourself), Cowboy Bebop and Haruhi Suzumiya. Satoshi Kon's films are also definitely worth seeing, and I suppose you should check out Paranoia Agent, though I was a little disappointed by some of the later episodes.

In your original post you mentioned two quite thrillery series and two comedies (I don't properly know all of the ones you listed so I hope I'm actually right there ), so I'll suggest some to go along with that. You might enjoy Darker Than Black on the thriller front, and something like Azumanga Daioh or Nichijou for comedy. Durarara!! kinda fits both categories, so that might be worth a shot too.

I can give some more suggestions if you can tell us anything more about your interests.

If you like OHSHC & Fruits Basket you might want to try Suki-tte Ii na yo, Kimi ni Todoke and Kaichou wa Maid-sama as pretty good comedy/shoujo anime.

In terms of others - I really liked Sakamichi no Apollon, which is sort of drama-y slice-of-life kind of thing linked with jazz music. Kuroko no Basuke is a good sports basketball anime. Space Brothers, out fairly recently, is funny too.

Another one might be the "Kodocha" series... about girl about 10 or so, mixing school and a TV career. A little bit of coming-of-age.

NC: If you're watching Sukitte, you should check out this blog piece on it ^^ http://www.bateszi.me/2012/11/04/say-i-l...kitte-ii-na-yo/

Also, recommend Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun from this season. It's pretty refreshing.

Durarara is another you might like.

If you want to see an awesome movie that's not by studio ghibli, I suggest sky crawlers. It's a sad tale, but it's amazing! I also enjoying full metal alchemist, bleach, ouran host club, D. Grey man, vampire knightl& one of my favorites...fruits basket! These all are fabulous! But if you like more action than comedy, I suggest you watch soul eater. It makes me laugh every time I see it! I also like to watch black butler. I am also into reading alice in the country of hearts, Alice in the country of clovers, Alice on deadlines, Pandora hearts, soul eater not!, Tokyo Mew Mew, Kitchen Princess, Lollipop!, Beast Master, & right now being my favorite is the umbrella academy. The Umbrella Academy is more of a comic book than a manga; however, it has an awesome story line & the man that wrote it is personally my favorite singer & artist. I hope you check these all out! & yes, most of the books listed are also tv shows & the tv shows are actually books. :3

XØ,
Zombie Venom~

Welcome to the Tavern, ZombieVenom, hope you will stay awhile... We are here primarily because we are Ghibli fans, but we also like other studios as well...

Everything mentioned in the first three sentences has been seen by either me or others in the Tavern and discussed here.

The others may have been seen by other members, but I personally have not seen them. My own preference is towards comedy, etc. I will check out some of the titles...

Again, Welcome...

I would recommend the following series based on my personal good experiences with them:

Haibane Renmei, Serial Experiments with Lain, Avatar the Last Air bender (don't know if it's technically considered anime, but close enough), Kino's Journey, Mushishi, and Monster. Besides those, I'll second Future Boy Conan, Cowboy Bebop, and Paranoia Agent.

Some of the best out there in my opinion.
