Posted by Saddletank on 07.05.2014, 09:20 PM: I have a copy of Inu no Flanders but have yet to watch it. I'm expecting it to be a serious tear-jerker so I need to be in the right (stable/happy) mood.

Posted by husky51 on 07.05.2014, 09:28 PM: I believe that Yajiro (frog) is the elder brother and Yaichiro (in brown robe) is brother #2, then Yasaburo, then Yashiro...

Posted by Nausicaa_Cat on 07.06.2014, 07:14 PM: Okay I'm all caught up! I feel much the same as everyone else where the last two episodes have been jolly good fun and everything but I still don't really understand the mystery at the heart of the story.

Posted by Saddletank on 07.07.2014, 07:46 AM: Like everyone else I feel Benten is a key... to something. I also have this theory that the Friday Fellows are not bad people who eat Tanuki - that's a scary tale Benten tells the Tanuki for her own purposes.

Posted by Roarkiller on 07.08.2014, 12:44 AM: She was taught the tengu arts by Akadama, wasn't she? I wish I knew what those were, I had always wished that if I had a power, it'd be flight. Think of all that convenience.
Posted by Saddletank on 07.08.2014, 07:40 AM: If so, that explains much because her ability to fly was really bugging me. However... if the Tengu fly with wings, why doesn't she have them? I notice she doesn't really fly but 'floats' or can jump really high and then smoothly drift down, as though her power is reducing the force of gravity. When she 'flies' its in a series of hops across rooftops and not Tengu flight with wings, so... I'm still curious about this.

Posted by arren18 on 07.08.2014, 12:49 PM: As everyone has said, episode 5 was a good one. I feel like I understand better what it's about, which is something that was bothering me a bit. It's still very unclear, but getting the chance to actually meet the Friday Fellows was helpful.
Posted by Saddletank on 07.08.2014, 01:20 PM: Hm, okay. So the subtitles I'm seeing that say "I could eat you all up", would you say that's a poor translation given the sub-meaning that phrase has in English?
Posted by arren18 on 07.08.2014, 09:30 PM: I wouldn't say it's that bad. If you were to say that in English about something other than a person, it fits pretty well. And like I said, the other things she says along with it give the same kind of impression, so I think it's a decent translation.
Posted by Saddletank on 07.09.2014, 06:29 AM: Thanks, that helps. She is talking to a racoon dog of course so I think where I'm going with this line of thought still applies.
Posted by arren18 on 07.09.2014, 07:03 AM: Hmm, I don't see her as a villain either. Really, it doesn't seem like there are any villains in this story, just some characters we don't know as much about as others.
Posted by arren18 on 07.11.2014, 10:48 AM: So, when should we watch episode 6? By next week?
Posted by Saddletank on 07.11.2014, 12:31 PM: I just watched it. I think we are due another episode. I had a Road to Damascus moment while watching this.
Posted by husky51 on 07.11.2014, 01:01 PM: I haven't watched ep 6 yet, but I still think that the frog is elder brother and that Yaichiro is in the position of being second brother forced to be 'elder' brother because of Yajiro's decision to become a frog... |
Posted by arren18 on 07.11.2014, 01:03 PM: Hmm, I wouldn't think there's any special meaning to their names. It's just a common old-fashioned way of naming children, particularly from the days where families tended to be pretty big. And I don't know of any set of four things that the brothers would fit into.
Posted by Saddletank on 07.14.2014, 09:25 AM: Anyone else watched ep6 yet? I'm itching to go onto 7.

Posted by Orphic Okapi on 07.16.2014, 05:34 AM: Sorry for my absence, and for still not being caught up. I was suddenly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes last week and spent the next several days in the hospital. It's been a bit crazy. I hope to be caught up by this weekend, though.
Posted by Saddletank on 07.16.2014, 06:23 AM: Oh wow. So sorry to hear that.
Posted by arren18 on 07.16.2014, 10:19 AM: Whoa! No need to apologise. I hope you feel better in some way very soon.
