Posted by arren18 on 07.25.2014, 08:47 PM: Ah, Saddles, don't worry that I'm not interested! I think I would actually prefer to have a new character, especially since Hibiki's close involvement in the main story of Isakaya would mean that that would need to be explained in some way.

Posted by Nausicaa_Cat on 07.25.2014, 08:47 PM: Ooh Kaz, I think that's my favourite approach so far! That makes a lot of sense.

Posted by Kazegami on 07.25.2014, 09:07 PM: Ah, that's good NC. Wasn't sure if I was going off in the wrong direction there.

Posted by Roarkiller on 07.26.2014, 05:44 AM: Well, I'm officially lost. Where am I and what are we talking about?

Posted by Kazegami on 07.26.2014, 05:46 AM: It's off to page one with you, Roar. XD

Posted by Saddletank on 07.26.2014, 06:21 AM: I agree with you NC, that the spirit world would intervene to save the land rather than the people, Mononoke style, so that's a better basic reason for them to become active.

Posted by Kazegami on 07.26.2014, 07:22 AM: I know what you mean, Saddles, I had an image of a pretty coastline too. Just... as you said yourself, it needs to be something pretty big and pretty serious to draw out these creatures that have been dormant for... well, probably more than 100 years. Hm. Maybe if the damage from whatever it is was more confined to the sea, affecting the life out there but leaving the beaches well enough alone. Maybe there could be red tides? They've happened in Japan before and they're quite dramatic.

Posted by Nausicaa_Cat on 07.26.2014, 11:01 AM: Maybe a good compromise is, like you said Kaz, an environmental issue but one which affects the sea but not the beaches. I think a new Japanese whaling factory/ship could be a good option? It'd also make sense in particular if we run with the whale spirit. Or an offshore oil rig? These can cause lots of damage to local sea-life without any actual spills. I guess I prefer a sea incident to the hotel idea (which now you've explained it further, I get a lot more where you're coming from) simply because I like the idea of a vengeful sea spirit.

Posted by Nausicaa_Cat on 07.27.2014, 07:54 AM: Hmmm, for some reason Saddles that image appears as a broken link to me what did you think of the compromises I suggested?
|
Posted by arren18 on 07.27.2014, 12:20 PM: Saddles, do you mean "the people" as in citizens? In that case I would probably translate it as 国民の魂 (kokumin no tamashii).

Posted by arren18 on 07.27.2014, 12:57 PM: Ah, I must have misunderstood. In that case, maybe rei or kami is good - perhaps youkai or yuurei if we're treating them as something spooky.
|
Posted by Kazegami on 07.27.2014, 01:03 PM: Mm, kami or youkai seem best... Rei and yuurei seem to suggest ghosts/departed spirits.
