I really really dont understand why Suzuki did not want to market the film. In Japan it might be ok to some degree but internationally it just would not work. Even miyazaki is worried regarding marketing. I hope they do some solid marketing when the international release happens.

Hopefully this will be an awesome movie

Hi, saviour...

I feel the same way... but, haven't been disappointed, yet.

I wasn't sure about it either, but I think it was a different way of generating hype - maybe with a greater focus on the artistry than on the commercial side.

Anyway, it must have worked to some extent. Depending on how it's counted, the new film had perhaps the best opening weekend Miyazaki has EVER had at the box office: https://www.crunchyroll.com/news/latest/...o-miyazaki-ever

It's a shame that the same effect won't be possible overseas though, since we'll have at least some information by the time it's out in other countries. I mean, even the English title gives away details that weren't made public before the original release.

This is what I got when I tried to access the link in your post, arren... Possibly because of my North American location??? LOL

Ohh glad to see it was well received in Japan. So far I know next to nothing about this film. Kinda looking forward to going into it blind. Hopefully it gets an international release soon!

That's mystifying, since Crunchyroll is an American site... But I've had issues with it in the past too, so maybe this is just a new technical issue. At least other places have also been reporting on this, so try this one instead: https://comicbook.com/anime/news/studio-...ing-box-office/

By the way, Ghibli put up a snippet of the theme song on Twitter, together with what I guess is a single storyboard from the film: https://twitter.com/JP_GHIBLI/status/1681529296211394564? Unfortunately I think you can't view posts on Twitter without an account right now, but there it is for anyone who wants to hear.

The cinema pamphlet (a booklet something like a theatre programme, normally released at the same time as the film) is now out! It features screenshots, and you can see some of those here if you really want to: https://twitter.com/catsuka/status/1689782383682191360

The European premiere has been announced! It'll be a couple of weeks after the first North American showing in Toronto.

I'm hoping this means that the first chance for some of us to see it won't be too far away!

EDIT: it's only been a few hours, but now the US premiere has been announced too (and you can also see the first full-quality screenshot to be released)! https://twitter.com/GhibliTavern/status/1692169715865796719

Nice to see the promo about the Tavern... With the new movie coming out now, I'm sure that we'll see some old faces (so to speak) again and some new ones!!!

That would be nice! Sadly, forums just aren't as popular as they used to be, but I hope with a high-profile new release, there'll be some people who want to come and talk about it once it's out more widely.

By the way, I was thinking it might be good to make a new thread (with the official title I guess) so people who've seen it can talk about it without worrying about spoiling it. Would that be a good idea?

hahaha, sounds like a good idea, with one exception, ME! lol

I would be so tempted to open a spoiler!!!

But, it IS a good idea, so go ahead if you wish... I'll just have to be strong

lol

Then you might really be tempted by this! The film has a page of its own on the Ghibli website now, including screenshots mostly showing the characters:

I've heard that it'll appear at a film festival in Poland in late September-early October too. Considering all the announcements so far, it's probably work keeping an eye on any October film festivals. Not sure about general release yet, but I have some vague memory of an announcement about it coming out in South Korea.
