Also in Mononoke, the whole scene after Ashitaka has rescued San. He's lying on the ground bleeding and she's shouting at him for preventing her from killing Lady Eboshi, and then he just says ... "You're ... beautiful." And then San freaks out. I thought her reaction just showed how alienated she was. A normal girl would just get embarrassed, but she was actually almost frightened.

why do i always forget about that scene? it goes into the second spot behind the train scene(which is the millionth time ive mentioned it )

That scene is priceless, especially in the English dub, when they play up the "big brother" thing with the wolf.

My first Ghibli was Kiki's Delivery Service when it first came out on video ten years ago. I've been a Ghibli fan ever since.

Heh, the only reason I watch the Disney dub is for the soundtrack.

Hisaishi's music for Kikujiro is amazing.

[SPOILER]

Actually, in the original comic, the Cat Kingdom was a place where cats would go when they couldn't be in the human world anymore, a "cat heaven" of sorts. So maybe the cats in the parade were servants of the Cat King. Plus, that procession made him look really important, which is probably what he wanted.

There are actually folktales from England and Europe about processions of cats, and a King of the Cats.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_of_the_Cats

I remember reading a variant of the tale in which a man got so fed up with his cat that he cut it's head off and threw it into the fireplace. To his horror, the severed head began speaking to him, telling them that he would have revenge, as his "master" had just cut off the head of the King of the Cats. After this, the man worried for a while, wondering what kind of revenge would be carried out against him. He found out some time later when he got a kitten. It tore his throat out.

So yeah, there's some interesting stories about great gatherings of cats plotting stuff, gossiping about the humans, or just being ticked off by humans in general.

This sounds interesting. When did it get published, and can we have some more information?

Actually, I thought that the entrance Chihiro's family went through is only open every so often, and it's appearence changes when this happens. The statue just before it might be some sort of "open/closed" sign, with both faces meaning that you can go in and out, and one face (depending on the side it appears on) could mean one way in, or one way out. The gateway itself looks nice and new when the door is open, and rundown and creepy when it's closed. It could also be a form of camoflauge against unwanted intruders.

This is one of the only cartoons I watch whenever I have the time. Patrick is awesome.

Sometimes when I'd sleep on my back, I'd feel like something just hit me in the face. It was pretty scary.

Well, I chose mine because I like the On Your Mark animation.

Yeah, this movie is really good. I watched it twice on the Independent Film Channel. Joe Hisaishi's music is excellent as always.

Yeah, I remember our family watching a pirated copy of Spiderman 2 a friend of ours borrowed. The colors were so dark and the screen was so grainy that it was hard to tell what was going on.

So, either see it in the theater (if it's still playing), or wait until it comes out on DVD and rent it (or buy it). Good picture quality is always better.

I saw a clip from The Silent Hill Experience on G4TechTV late last night. It was like an extremely twisted music video, and to be blunt-it scared the bejeezus out of me. It was one of those things that totally freaks you out, and yet you can't look away.

Oh, and the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede is an excellent series. There's four books and a book of short stories, some of which are related to the series.

I read Arkham Asylum. It was pretty good, but the art style made me feel like I was crazy (to me, the art style combined with the story reminded me of a dream or something).

The Dark Knight Strikes Back (the sequel to The Dark Knight Returns) is good too. It takes place three years since the events of the last book. It's gotten mixed reviews, and I can understand why. I also recommend The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman. Delirium's my favorite character in that one.

Another good book is The Silver Crown by Robert C. O'Brian. It's usually found in the children's section, but some of the subject matter is definately NOT for children.

Death, the Witches, the Librarian and the Bursar are my favorite Discworld characters. I highly recommend The Art of Discworld as well.

A good graphic novel is The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. Batman is getting old, and he decides to make a comeback, as a wave of terror descends on Gotham City.

I totally agree with OYM Angel, Terry Pratchett totally rocks, you should so give him a go, really funny!! If you're after something a little deeper, Isaac Asimov is very good, I particularly recommend I, Robot. If you like Dan Brown, then read the book he stole the idea from, The Holy Blood And The Holy Grail (it may not be a novel, but it's truly a riveting read).
Film wise, make it a point to see Perfect Blue (awesome anime psychological thriller) and the two recent Stephen Chow movies, Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle (great effects and v.funny).

You're a Terry Pratchett fan too? ^_^

And yeah, I totally agree that Perfect Blue and Kung-Fu Hustle are awesome.

I HIGHLY recommend Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels (Death rules!), and Christopher Moore's books (random comedy).

Peter S. Beagle's The Last Unicorn and Tamsin, and Michael Ende's The Neverending Story.

Another one of my all-time favorite groups is Nightwish.
