I was struggling last year for ideas on what to buy my friend for Christmas, I thought of buying her an original Studio Ghibli print or something. Does anybody know if these are obtainable, and at what prices ?

I think she must have intended to kill. Why would her aim simply be just to maim Lady Eboshi?

I want to attend a mass showing of Laputa Or maybe watch it in a drive through theatre!
Husky, can you call Miyazaki and ask him to arrange something ?

Hehe little self-plug here but I've got a page on my Tumblr blog specifically for memes - some homemade, some reposts, some funny links.
Also reblogging any cool Ghibli stuff I find on my main blog.
Self-plug over

THIS. This scene in general from Spirited Away always sticks in my mind, but especially the shot from the train as it passes the silhouette of a little girl. I’d really love to know Miyazaki’s inspiration for the train scene. Anyone got any opinions?
Also, any Tumblrs out there ?

Hehe, I didn't mean to steal your crown! It was a period in my life when I lived with my grandparents after my parents moved to the country (when i was 18 ), I was in the 'inbetween' in terms of education, work, life in general. I just found this film so comforting, the perfect escape each and every time I watched it!

I'm really surprised that few people have Laputa in their top 5! I can still remember the first time I watched it, how moving and powerful it was.
Me too! It's a very close second place for me. Another Ghibli film I've watched countless times, I can almost recite the whole script ! Dola the Pirate is probably my favorite Ghibli character of all time!

It's good to see that a lot of others also really like Whisper of the Heart - I thought it might be towards the bottom of most peoples' lists.
It's my favorite, closely followed by Laputa.
I have literally (I'm using the word 'literally' honestly here, not as a form of exaggeration) watched Whisper somewhere around 200 times.
I used to fall asleep to it every night, so comforting. Uhg, I sound so sloppy !

I really enjoy a good Japanese horror film.
Battle royale is a classic
Has anyone seen Tetsuko? It's a really weird 'silent' horror film about a guy who turns into a scrap metal monster. Not for the faint hearted.
Anyone have any recommendations for some really scary J-horrors?

It's interesting that you put Earthsea in your top 5. Most people (myself included) view it as one of Ghibli's worst films (still a good film though!).
The other four I can't argue with, I'd probably put Whisper of the Heart in there, near the top.
Laputa is probably my favorite. Just a stunning film. Only yesterday is also beautiful, I've only seen it once, need to rewatch it!

Glad you enjoyed China
I've lived in Beijing & Tianjin for 2 years now & still loving it (I'm British).
Any questions about life in China, I should be able to answer haha
Also, if any taverners plan to visit Beijing, hit me up for a drink or two haha

It's probably one of the Ghibli films I've watched the least, only a couple of times, but there's something quite unexplainably magical about it.
I agree, it's not my personal favorite, but as somebody who has forever been obsessed with Japan and never had the chance to go, it offers me a peek into what I hope the Japanese country side is really like (Is it a Satoyama?). Only Yesterday also provides a similar look into rural Japan.
On the face of it, it's a very simple and childish film, but one that really leaves a lasting impression. It's calming, a great film to fall asleep to (in a good way!).
