I think they have stopped for the moment from showing them. Hmmm well I never knew that Grave of the Fireflies was on, they said the studio ghibli season started after the 3:00pm film. I think they were a little sneaky they said "the maker of Spirited away" they never said they where going to play it.

hmmm....yes that was dissappointing, i didnt realise Grave was on either.
Hopefully the Ghibli season recived high ratings and mabey they'll do another in the future.
EDIT: also i think Howl's moving castle and spirited away were too new to be shown for free.

Now that I think about it, has Spirited Away even been shown on normal UK TV yet? I'd thought that maybe they would show it for the first time, but it looks like they didn't...

Either they mean the makerS of Spirited Away, or like every other clueless distributor, think that every movie that rolls out of ghibli is from Miyazaki.

Takahata and Miyazaki both founded Ghibli in 1985.

Whoa Thats Pretty Freaky sieng as i am coming from the EXCACT same story as you when seeing Princess Mononoke. Each day as I got home from College and couldnt wait until 5pm for the next Ghibli to start. I watched all every day English and Japanese subs.
Got pretty dissapointed after the finished and after about 3 days of no Ghibli Went and 14 ghibli films over the internet.
seen em all and now am 100% addicted

To be honest i was disappointed.
I have been observing this trend.
I mean, Totoro is like really really good. I loved it, it's within my top 3 Ghibli. Some even says, it's the best. Even the author of Howl's ranked Totoro as the best Miyazaki work.
Anyway, my observation is - how come when they get to watch Princess Mononoke first, the expectation becomes a tad high.
Is it because Mononoke is really that good (it's very good i know, im not trying to disagree here), that sends the bar very high "OR" the person is kinda blind of what art as a whole Ghibli is trying to express. I mean, Mononoke is also action packed and an epical fantasy world in it's own. A potential Naruto (or any plot of the same theme) fan, that differs from the Ghibli art, will still like it. Well, it's just me.

YO!!
First ghibli I watched = Mononoke
2nd = Nausicaa
3rd = Spirited Away
4th = Porco
As you can see, they kinda step down in terms of epicness so was not dissapointed when i saw Porco.. I loved the coolness and the differentness (I know that word doesnt exist)..
Same when I saw Totor, I loved it for what it was, and did not hate it for what it wasnt.
In terms of epicness, I would put Mononke at the top, definitely, probably tied with Howls.. (my fave ghibli!!)

I'm confused - is Gedo Senki the Japanese title of "Tales from Earthsea"?

Thanks, now to await it's release on DVD in the UK - I've seen no word of it getting shown at cinemas, Howl was released in cinemas here but I don't think it did too well.

They haven't started working on the dubs yet though. In Korea what they show on cinemas are subbed.

I like the title Gedo Senki better.
I think I heard on LeGuin's website that
it's coming to DVD in USA in 2009 or later.
Heard Hayao's got a new film coming out in 2008.
How do you add photo's, you stupid thing! >
