Osamu Tezuka's greatest masterpiece. I'm going to buy the entire Astro Boy collection tomorrow, thursday(June 8th). I'll let you know how it is! Has anyone played the videogame or watched an episode here and there? Maybe even read the manga, which is amazing aswell. Anyone else absolutely love Astro Boy?

To shiawase
When I was small, several decades years ago, I used to watch Astro Boy TV show every Monday evening.
Of course it was white and black version.
In those days, Tezuka was also writing last part of Astro Boy manga series on the monthly magazine. I was also reading it every month.
Tezuka was unbelievably very busy in those days. Almost he himself was a superman like Astro Boy.
A couple of years ago, Astro Boy new series was reproducted and broadcasted in color version.
That is very very beautiful, such as Metropolis directed by Rintaro.
The coloring is calm and quiet, intentionally old fashioned, but animation is very dynamic because of much used CG.
If you like Metropolis, you'll surely like this new version.
Btw, do you know Naoki Urasawa? He is one of the most talented manga writer nowadays in Japan.
He is famous for 20th Century Boys and Monster.
He is now writing PLUTO serially on the comic magazine. It's a kind of sequel of Astro Boy.
But its atomosphere is quite different from Tezuka's. It seems quite another story.
Actually he is only using the charaters from Astro Boy.
It is a kind of hommage to Tezuka. I believe Urasawa's skill in drawing and story making is much better than Tezuka.
Of corse, PLUTO is very interesting.
Look at this picture. Can you believe that this boy is Atom and a super robot???

I certainly did buy it and the videogame. Both are amazing and worth every cent I paid!!! I love Astro Boy, but this PLUTO character seems interesting too. Any famous new mangaka can certainly be added to my list! Tell me more!

I love Astro Boy, Tezuka is the godfather of anime!! Without him and his genius, who knows what we'd be watching now?!
Miyazaki, Takahata, and Yasuo Otsuka weren't influenced by Tezuka at all, and in fact expressed discontent due to Tezuka's "limited animation" style becoming the norm for Japanese animation.

Oh really? I could see Takahata and Miyazaki not being influenced by Tezuka because they invented their own style: Ghibli!!
