both the manga and the anime are really funny. inuyasha is also a good anime by the same author.

i LOVE inuyasha! yeah, Rumiko Takahashi wrote both of them. i like the ranma 1/2 anime, but the fillers make akane look bad.

I like Ranma too, but I don't understand why. It's funny, but why is a boy who changes into a girl funny? Is it becuase his father looks comletely rediculous? I laugh, and yet I do not understand why I laugh, kind of sad when I think about it. I'd like to here why other people like Ranma.

I think that the boy-changing-into-girl part is supposed to be funny because Ranma is a guy who's basically had ZERO experience with women since all his life he's been training with men. Thus, becoming a girl for him is like changing into a new lifeform. That, and it's always funny how he gets into situations that have to do with him being a girl. Poor Ranma.
As for why I like it, well, in a way, Ranma 1/2 is a bit like a more zany version of the show, "Seinfeld". You know how "Seinfeld" always has those exaggerated moments and makes fun of how certain people are (in a way that isn't rude). Ranma 1/2 does the same sort of thing...only it's a lot more unbelievable than "Seinfeld" (well, of course. lol)
For example, we've got a guy who's got an over-the-top bad sense of direction (Ryoga), one who cooks wherever and whenever (Ukyo), an overly-dramatic wannabe-Shakespere guy (Kuno), and many other things as well. I guess Ranma 1/2, in a way gives you a reality check with its humor.
Another thing I like about Ranma 1/2 is the heroine Akane (but only in the manga; I hate how the anime made her seem so mean). I love how she isn't exceptionally beautiful nor perfect (can't swim, sew, etc.) but just normal and human! I guess the main reason I like Akane is because I can relate to her so many times (we're both tomboys with a violent temper, we can't sew, etc.)

OMG!!! I simply ADORE Ranma 1/2!!!
It was the FIRST manga i have ever gotten into and i love it DEATH!!! (akane + Ranma 4EVER!!!)
^^(i think i;m a bit hyper)
but i read the manga (well....whatever i can afford to get) and i LOVE it. Personally, i think most original manga series are ALOT better than the animes, but i'vve only seen one of the Ranma movies.....so i wouldn't know too much. ^^

I remember when I was just getting into manga and anime... I was at the libary looking for pokemon comics and issues of Animerica. My brother found a copy of Ranma, so we took it home and read it. It was 'the bathhouse battle' chapter. You can imagine, if the only anime you've ever seen is (the englsh versions of) pokemon and Dragonball Z, it's something of a shock to see naked girls running around in rooms full of other naked people and old men shouted 'let me have a good cry in your bossom(dont remember how to spell that..)!'
I thought I was reading Hentai or something!
...although now, I think it was a good introduction to the world of manga. I mean, you might as well get the initial shock over, and after that, I was never surorised to see Japanese bathing together. But i think it's funny that i just happened to get a Ranma with so much nudity, especially because I've never seen another copy of Ranma just lying around at the libiary. I've always had to put them on hold.

I'm sure that's unimportant, since that priviledge is now turned off.
