I agree, SA was good but not the best. But I think Laputa was the best.
My favourite character... hmm... that's really hard. My favourite main characters are Pazu, Shizuku and Nausicaa, while my favourite supporting character is probably Dora (from Laputa).

Uh, best character or movie?
Theres like too many characters to single out the best. But for the best main character, Nausicaa or Chihiro. Both stands out the most IMO.

I think thats the point, lol. She's supposed to be spoiled.

Actually Chihiro only puts up her spoiled look at the start of the movie. When the plot unfolds itself you can find that she is growing continuously. By the end she has already become much more mature than most of the 10-year-old children, and even some adults.
If Chihiro was a really perfect heroine, the movie would have no fun at all and the audience could no longer be able to attach themselves onto it. In fact, Miyazaki said that he made Chihiro looks like a typical 10-year-old girl, instead of making her a superstar bishoujo, was because it is a movie made for those 10-year-old girls. He wanted them to be able to share their own feelings with Chihiro, and let Chihiro to touch the deepest parts of their minds.

There are so many characters that I like that it is really diificult to pick the most favoiurite one. So is it okay if I talk about my favourite ones?
Jiji is a really well-illustrated character. He is such a conservative worrywart but is also quite humourous. Some critics say that the most unsuccessful part of Kiki's Delivery Service is that the black cat no longer talks in the second half of the movie.
Kiki is another unforgettable character. Despite of her flying ability, she is one of the most realistic characters in my eyes. (perhaps I am too immature to understand Porco's middle-age crisis, and the mutual love between Seiji and Shizuku ). Her imperfectness like sudden anger, embarassment towards strangers and many others make her stand out as a real person. Outwardly she is innocent and weak, but she is indeed spiritually strong (kinda like Satsuki). She is also a very likeable girl, being very polite and cares about her friends. Moreover I have to say I am a bit partial to those who can freely fly in the sky.
Nausicaa is another great character. she is determined, confident, strong in both physical and spiritual sense,
charismatic, and caring. She is also a good ecologist and pilot. She is even willing to sacrifice herself for the sake of the others. Nevertheless the far-too-perfect qualities make me admire of her at a distance. My partiality for flying is also in effect here.

This is difficult . At the moment, however, my favorite Ghibli (and pre-Ghibli) heroines are Lana, Clarisse, Nausicaa, Sheeta, and the unnamed angel from On Your Mark. My favorite heroes are Konan, Jigen, and Hauru.

I like 4 out of 5 of the aforementioned heroines (I've never seen FBC). I wish I had wings like the angel. But there'd be the risk of getting shot, so I'd settle for a working Mehve.

Ohhh, I agree Goddess Nayru! Love the Baron. And he must be pretty important to be in TWO Ghibli films. He's definitely one of my favorites.
IMO, my very favorite character is probably Shizuku from Whisper of the Heart. I think part of that is maybe because the movie's setting is present-day, so it makes it easier to associate with her. But also, it's easy to see how her character grows throughout the movie (mentally).
Not to mention, Seiji (her boyfriend) is just sooo dreamy, so i'd love to be her!!
Chihiro is also a favorite of mine, for the same reason as Shizuku and being able to see how she grows and starts to find herself throughout the film.
Hmm...there are just too many to chose from!!

Mine would have to be Sophie. Only because she reminds me too much of me - in way too many ways. Mannerisms and all.
