TWO years? I saw your post and at first I thought it must be one. Wow!
And husky, I also don't see Photobucket images, but I think that's most likely a problem on their end. I seem to remember their stuff was already failing to show up, so maybe their hosting doesn't work anymore for some reason.

Photobucket a while ago began to charge customers if they wanted to get their pics to show up on other sites. A completely stupid decision as apparently its totally killed the company. Nobody uses it now as the only reason 95% of people use image hosting sites is to show them elsewhere.
So from now on PB is useless unless you pay them a fee. This is why all the images do not show unless they are yours - you can see your own PB images on here Husky, but nobody else can.
I think a lot of mine will still show as I use a private hosting space I get with my paid subscription to a train-simulator site.

LL: the death of Stephen Hawking at the young age of 76.
The world has lost one of its most amazing minds. The man was astounding, and magnificent.

Sad day indeed. That he lived this long and and achieved so much in spite of his condition speaks so much for the strength of the man.

alternatively we could be happy that he lived 50 years more than the doctors predicted and helped us understand the universe a little bit better

its a uniquely Miyazaki film, one only he could make and its uniqueness places it beyond being easily critiqued.[About Porco Rosso] taken from a quote of Saddletank and Orphic Okapi

Not so much "alternatively" but "as well as". Mourning his passing with sadness is always right and respectful but his achievements and the path he blazed to greater understanding of the cosmos and our place in it is what he will always be remembered for.
We don't mourn Einstein now and in the years to come we won't mourn Hawking, but his death is fresh and sadness at loss is only natural.

Yeah, I'd agree with both sides of it. It's very sad news, but at the same time it's amazing that he lived so long and managed to accomplish so much.

It is hard to believe that so much time had passed. I do miss a lot of the earlier members such as Loscil; Harmony Mar; and so many, many others that we never hear from any more... I do hope that all are doing well in their lives...
It would be wonderful if all, or at least most of these wonderful people would come back and at least say 'Hi'. I do know that some pop in now and them and it is great to hear from them...
Did this place used to have a lot of traffic?

More than now, definitely. About 10 to 12 years ago we had an anime-based RPG running and the place was buzzing then. Quite a few regulars seem to have drifted away when that ended.

In the past few years it's died down a lot. There's been less new material to make new people come along, and at the same time many long-time members have just become busy with other things. But as Saddles says, there was much more going on in the past.

So many members came in their younger years and as they grew older they went on to other interests over the years and just plain grew up...
Me, I have always liked cartoon movies since i watched "Alakazam the Great" back around 1960 in the back of my parents car... I was about 14 at the time. When I discovered Ghibli, I was online and found the Tavern. Since I was already grown and had my interests already implanted, so to speak, I just stayed with Ghibli and went on to other anime as well, but Ghibli's are still my favorite...
I enjoyed talking to the younger generations from all over the world and believe me, I mean AROUND THE WORLD!
I'm not going to enumerate them , but by my count, I have spoken with Tavern people from at least 23 countries that I can recall, just sitting here and writing them down. Many from Australia and Canada and the British Isles. Our long time admin lives in Singapore, before he got busy with life and arren got the reins.
Another worldwide forum that I belong to is the Dragon Cave Forum, which some in here know about. You see my Dragons, but that is just a part of DC...
