LL: somehow in the course of setting up our new fishtank, we accidentally disconnected the heater for the other one, temperature dropped 20 degrees before we noticed. >_< Most of the fish seem okay, amazingly, but we lost a couple of the nicest ones...

It was a shame. Thankfully the majority are doing fine.
HL: lovely Easter lunch, mum made us roast chicken with veg, roast potatoes and stuffing. We followed that with chocolate and French wine. Mm.
Oh yeah, happy Easter everyone! (*'â–½')

LL: Unfortunately I've been made an alternate for the JET programme! I've decided to give it until early May to see if I'm upgraded (who knows eh?) but past that point there's some major life stuff I've been putting off which I'm not sure I'd want to any further.
I don't know how likely/often people do get upgraded, but fingers crossed I guess!

I think it happens fairly often... When a friend and I both applied for JET and got put on the alternate list, she was upgraded after a month or two, I think. Good luck!

Welcome to the Tavern, night_bird!
Wish we could see some spring here. It was snowing all day yesterday and raining all day today.

Welcome! I hope you enjoy yourself here.
The weather's been really nice here this week. The cold lingered for quite a while, but then it changed pretty suddenly. Lately it's been sunny every day.

Hi Night_Bird, and welcome.
LL: Moving house. Tiring, filthy work. Ugh.
HL: Moving house! Throwing out loads of accumulated crap and things I haven't touched since my last house move of 3 years ago. I have a rule that if, between house moves, something isn't used, away it goes!

@night_bird Welcome to the tavern!
HL: Got a lot of yard work done.
LL: It's going to be hot this week!
@husky51 Hope you're able to keep cool, I already know i'm going to get a shade or two darker from the sun...

No problem, jusomekid, no problem at all, but thank you for your concern. It is supposed to hit 100 out in the desert just east of me, which I'm sure you've heard, lol. The normally exposed parts of my body (head and arms) are quite a bit darker than the rest of me... hahaha, think blindingly white with a mellow brown on the exposed parts. And that's with minimal sun exposure these days. When I was at the pool or beach every day (add the legs and torso into the equation) and the skin gets quite dark and being light skinned/blue-eyed I'm supposed to be a skin cancer risk from too much sun, but I've never had a problem with it. Even when working out of doors as I did most of my life.
During the summer months when I seen it 116 on a more or less daily basis, I keep the one bedroom air-consitioned as a safe haven if I need a break from the heat, but other than that, I don't do much else.
HL:
I'm going to be in Berdoo Mon afternoon at the Golden C... hahah, a manager from a Sizzler and her supermarket produce dept husband and I are dining there. They haven't tried it yet, so I am treating them. I've been comp'd a few meals in the past, so I figure that it is only fair to return the favor, lol We're all history buff's and they are good
Take care, my friend and have a great week...

Highlight: first day at my new job! It was strange being in a real school for the opening ceremonies and stuff, and I did very nearly arrive late, but it was a good new experience.

Are Japanese students curious about foreign teachers or are there so many now they no longer raise a fuss about it?

Highlight: In the animal shelter, where I work as a volunteer, yesterday people took away all the pets. It's so cool to look at the empty cells and know that those who lived in them now have a family and a home ^^

Oh, definitely curious. There are foreign teachers at a lot of schools, sure, but generally a maximum of one. The nature of the job also tends to result in fairly high turnover of English teachers, so it's uncommon for them to see somebody so regularly and for so long that it becomes normal.

HL: Finished the house move. New place full of boxes and chaos but its so good to be out of the old house.
Next thing #1: Buy bookcases to hold my huge library of military and railway books.
Next thing #2: Clean out the garage and get it fully lined and insulated with a new false ceiling, floor, lights, power points, etc for the railway! New windows and door as well, plus bricking up the end that has the main door for vehicle access. Hard and dirty work but looking forward to it.
