Wow. That is HUGE. Must've been expensive.
Makes you wonder why the Ghibli staff aren't rich.

July 29. So far, it's been previewed a couple times, and has gotten mostly terrible reviews.

Wow, really?
Hmmm :S
Many of the critics in Japan are saying it's too long, convulted, and dialogue-heavy. Don't worry, it'll pass.

I just watched Toki wo Kakeru Shojo at the Cineplex in Makuhari--one of the very few theaters in the Tokyo area showing it. I thought it was an excellent film, but it's also the third feature film with the same title--so I don't know how its originality stacks up.
The animation reminds me of Neko no Ongaeshi, but not quite as well detailed in the foreground. The thing it definitely had on Neko was the story. The characters were well-developed and believable even for a fantasy.

Me too... I had great expectation for this movie and believed that Ghibli would never fail its fans...
Still, that is merely one single poll, and the movie has not even been officially released. I will just cross my fingers and hope for the best.
To the bright side (not really that bright, but well...), a failure of the movie would mean Hayao Miyazaki has to stay a bit longer as the leading director of Ghibli.

Howl's Moving Casyle was 2.8/5 on Yahoo Japan.
So many Japanese love Ghibli film but so many people, especially Otaku, hate latest Ghibli film.
Many anti-Ghibli people write a review to lower an average mark without see the Gedo Senki.
Most of 1 star criticize it severely, but do not say why is is bad. Because they do not see it.

I'm not aware that the film has been released yet. This looks more like fanboy whining on the internet. Consider that the song from the movie has become a #1 hit and made its singer into a rising star, and you see that there is a genuine demand for Gedo Senki.
Don't put your faith on what internet nerds say. The opinions of Comic Book Guy don't matter much in the long run. I expect this movie to be a success at the box office; the question is simply how big a success.
