I would not say love. I would say appreciation and attachment to her personality or something along these lines.
But actually i am not quite sure what love really is so i can not say strongly.

One -of the many things- I didn't like about Arrietty is that the "small people" are just scaled-down versions of normal people, they are exactly like humans except for the size. Bad decision. I would have preferred that they were drawn as a different race or species.

That's just what they are, though... That's what they've always been in the previous films and the book.

Yeah, no offense, but that strikes me as an incredibly silly criticism. Like, why? Would making them look different from normal people have changed the story in any way?

I wouldn't call it love, it seems too.. well basic to be love. I'd call it appreciation at the worst or at best a very close friendship.
