It seems that TCM has taken down all of their polls for many different movies that arn't on DVD yet. Maybe they are just having techical difficulties.

Well you must of not been paying attention. At the Howl's screening last June, "Only Yesterday" was announced to be suspended indefinately.

I recorded "Only Yesterday" when it was aired on TCM. Subtitles and all, very good movie. I know it will be released stateside. How can they keep it under lock and key? They sent "Pom-Poko" and "My Neighbours the Yamadas" along with "Whisper of the Heart" just recently. "My Neighbour Totoro" is in the top 10 best selling list at many stores in my city. It was brought over by Disney AGAIN for some reason. Disney or whoever decides to do Hayao any justice at all should bring us "Only Yesterday", it's only fair to us all.

Oh yeah, I remember hearing something about this. From what I understand, Disney have been quite successful in shifting Ghibli DVDs, but this one has raised concerns. The DVDs have been targeted for children, but since Only Yesterday deals with some sensitive issues (namely, periods) -certification must be at the very least a PG. They do not have the authority to edit this scene out either.
If Disney were to, however, release a dub it would probably be there worst to date. No doubt they would try to whitewash such scenes, destroying the movies original charm.
Sorry to all those with Region 1 only DVD players, but to all those with multiregion players....you're probably better off with an import.

Periods? The tanuki's (pompoko) can wrap themselves in there own testacles and roll down a hill, but only yesterday is being questioned coz it deals with periods!? You've got to be kidding!
