Its about some ppl in a damn big MMPORPG with adventures like monster rancher. Actually, come to think of it, its sort of like Monster rancher in many ways.
The different .hack might seem the same, and they usually r except for a few differences. The different titles r juz to differentiate the media in which they were released, i think. The ones i remember r:
Sign
Liminality (anime)
Dusk (anime)
Legend of the Twilight Bracelet (manga)
And the game i forgot the name. Hey, that rhymes!

I've seen one episode of .hack, and i've played the first two games. I really don't like the T.V. series, but since I've seen only one episode, I really can't have an opinion. I didn't like the game because the story was pretty fetch this fetch that. The OVA that comes with the game is okay.

I've read the 1st three mangas, and seen most of the anime. Its okay but sometimes has disturbing scenes, like when the gaurdian (Tsukasa's little thingy) starts whipping all the girls, I think they were treasure-hunting wave masters, but I dunno.

The .hack franchise is really interesting. I hope that the .hack//Fragment online-offline game is good. GU is coming out next year or so, and the first .hack novel is coming out.
The music for .hack//SIGN is really good. The game soundtrack is very nice, and so are the songs for Liminality.

The new manga just came out last month. .HACK//A.I. Buster. Vol 2 was recently released. I havn't read it though. Said to be more related to the players of the World rather than the characters in the World itself. Worth checking out I'd say. Just about people playing a virtual reality game. Hitting close to home for some of you? I love MMORPGS!!!

The A.I buster novels are very nice.
They're releasing the Another Birth novels this summer.

As with plenty of things, I know a fair bit about it, even though I've only just seen episode one of .hack//SIGN (which I thought was awesome)
Basically, there's SIGN, which is (I think) 27 episodes long. There's also DUSK, a 12-episode (again, I think) series, which seems to be based on the Legend of Twilight Bracelet manga, as those two names keep getting mixed up. There's also ROOTS, which I know pactically nothing about, and I can't remember how long it is. And then there's LIMINALITY (a 4-part OVA) and GIFT (a one-off SIGN parody) which come with the games INFECTION, MUTATION, OUTBREAK and QUARANTINE. The game FRAGMENT wasn't released in the US, but it might have come out in Japan (I'm not certain though)
All of them are set in a huge MMORPG called The World, and generally involve a central character that is unable to log out. In the games, it works as a kind of MMORPG simulator, designed to feel like you're online playing the game with millions of other real people, when it's not. FRAGMENT is, however, online, but like I've said, that might've been ditched.
This person on YouTube has uploaded episode one of SIGN (with English subtitles) and other episodes (possibly all of it, I didn't check how far they go). The subs are a little tricky to read, and you'll often have to pause for a moment to read them properly, but it's worthwhile if you'd rather not see a dubbed version.
I'm exhausted now.
EDIT: I've just checked, and found out that the person only got as far as episode 8, but they might just do more if we're lucky. Also, I'm pretty sure somebody else uploaded the following episodes anyway.

This an old thread. But eh.
Roots is a relatively new anime series, revolving around Haseo. I'm not sure how far it is now (probably ending soon), but it has quite a bit more action that Sign.
Dusk anime is pure kiddy stuff. Only watch it if you can take that high a level of nonsensical (i.e. rubbish) humour and ridiculously high-pitched voices.
