Kasimasi - Girl Meets GirlPost Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Search for Posts by Saddletank Report Post to a Moderator        IP Address Go to the top of this page

I'm just about to start watching another odd romance thing called Kasimasi - Girl Meets Girl which I'm downloading now from Veoh.

It's odd because the main character starts as a boy but gets turned into a girl by aliens at the end of ep1. I guess looking at screens these are middle school kids - 13 or 14 years old? Not sure, haven't started watching yet.

The boy has two girls who both like him. So we have a love triangle with a difference.

So - ho hum it sounds like a cue for lots of ecchi rubbish and yuri goings on - and yes there looks like there is some of that but also it looks like a very good story is worked in there about confusion of identities, stresses on the sexualities of growing adolescents and various agonizing things to do with love and so on. It looks like it is going to be quite traumatic later on, so I'm looking forward to this one.

Artwork is very pretty too.

I've watched 2 eps now and this is excellent.

First off the artwork is very very good, lovely smooth animation, beautiful character design, great colours, it looks a treat.

Plot - hm, the alien sex change thing is a trifle odd a plot device I have to say but 2 of the aliens have turned up again at the end of ep2 so it looks like their intervention will be an ongoing thing.

Lots of interesting struggles and things going on all round among the new girl and her classmates. She had a boy as a mate and he's mighty confused by this, as much as the girls in the class.

The whole thing s public BTW, the event was known about worldwide, so the new girl is struggling facing the press etc too and is suffering quite a bit as a result.

All in all it works well. I didn't expect it to be this good, but it is. Funny too.

I'm 6 eps in now and this is simply a gorgeous series. I'm loving it. Its got this silly aliens observing human psychology element and some Love Hina type kicking of boys into the middle of next week by annoyed girls stuff, but the key here is these amazingly deep confused hurting relationships. The fact that its girl-girl stuff is completely irrelevant, the pain and heartbreak is just awesomely good. I've not had a dry eye this last three episodes.

Almost anything that comes from Dengeki Daioh is good. I guess I'll have to watch this now and see if it holds up. I was going to ignore it, but your little conversation with yourself has inspired me to at least try it.

And if you didn't think it would be good, and then it was, then we are at this point coming from the same position. I don't think it will be good, but now I'm interested to find out.

Aw man, I wanted to be the one to stop saddle's posting spree.

Ah well.

Right now as it is, my harddisk is VERY full- that is to say, even more than usual, so I need to clear some spac before I even start on any titles, new or old, so I can't say much. But this is a relatively new series, and from the title, yeah, you can pretty much guess it's a lot of nonsensical going-ons.

The title, by the way, is a japanese tongue-twister. AzuDai fans would know, ya?

According to one website:

The title of the series loosely translates as "noisy" and is derived from the Japanese phrase, "When three women gather, it is noisy" (Onna san nin Yoreba kashimashii). The subtitle, "Girl Meets Girl", comes from the traditional English phrase "boy meets girl" and is slightly altered to reflect the lesbian relationships that appear in the series. The main title was originally romanized as Kasimasi in accordance with Kunrei-shiki Rōmaji, but this was later changed in the English adaptations to Kashimashi in accordance with Hepburn romanization.

"Kashimashi" is also the name of the fictional town and school where the series is set ("Kashima-shi" ). The kanji for "kashimashi" contains three of the character for "woman" or "female," and there are three female main characters.

But strangely enough, of the three female leads only one could be described as noisy. The other two are very shy.

Roar, you need to burn some of your HDD files to CD and get to see this soonish.

I'm almost at the end now. Eps 7 and 8 had more than the average quotient of sillyness in there (7 being the obligatory 'trip to the beach' episode but even so it had its fair share of good plot advancement). Ep8 was very silly indeed but again had a nice touch at the ending with a fourth girl who isn't one of the main characters show some interest but rather sensitively withdraw from the rather hectic goings-on (in a small town high school there do seem to be rather a lot of gay girls).

But Eps9, 10, 11 and 12 (the original end of the series - Ep13 was an OVA but it continues the story) are again lovely episodes. There's a very long monologue by one of the girls in the 3rd quarter of the last episode which just rent my heart. Trashy in places this series may be but its got several strong themes running through it other than love and it's written with real honesty.

Although I watched it at:

http://www.veoh.com/series/KasimasiGirlM...4480&rank=1

I don't know if it's been done in English or not. I suspect not as its a pretty recent series. The Japanese voice acting though is very very VERY good. There is a lot of angsty emotional scenes in this series and the voice acting as girls are confessing love and blubbing all over the place is extremely good. How these VAs can talk/act for four or five minutes while crying fit to burst I don't know but I do recommend the original Japanese.
