A friend of mine never really saw animation before so I compiled a list of anime that I really like. I thought I would share it since I have it. Good bad or indifferent here it is. Maybe there is something you will enjoy.

Animated Features -- The good --The bad -- The Director
Tokyo Godfathers Dysfunctional homeless family comedy none Satoshi kon

Perfect Blue Incredible disjointed mysterious plot flow, thriller Some Violent scenes Satoshi kon

Crimson Pig Light hearted memorable movie none Miyazaki Hayaoo

Ghost in the shell Extremely artful police sci-fi with action and thought provoking dialog, the creators of the Matrix were strongly influenced by this movie Violent, dark, slow at times may have to watch multiple times to understand plot Mamoru oshii

Ghost in the shell 2 A great sequel with cutting edge animation technology. Violent, dark, slow at times may have to watch multiple times to understand plot Mamoru oshii

Princess Mononoke Powerful environmental theme and thought provoking Lengthy, very involved plot Miyazaki Hayaoo

Howl's moving castle Light hearted coming of age story and memorable movie Japanese dub awful English dub is best Miyazaki Hayaoo

Kiki's delivery service Light hearted coming of age story and memorable movie May be too childish for some Miyazaki Hayaoo

Akira Considered the cornerstone of modern animation and one of the greatest cell based animated movies ever made, no computer technology at all. 1988 somewhat dated, ultra violent, sorta teenagish Katsuhiro Otomo

Iron Giant Light hearted memorable movie May be too childish for some David Bird

Spirited away Light hearted coming of age story and memorable movie Japanese cultural strangeness Miyazaki Hayaoo

Grave of the fire flies Powerful story about WWII orphans and firebombing of Japan You will cry Takahata

My neighbor totoro Will make you smile and feel like you are 8 years old, fun for adults with open minds Very Childish, movie lacks strong substance Miyazaki Hayaoo

Secret of nyhm Classic feature anime before it was trendy May be too childish for some David Bird

Naussica in the valley of wind Powerful epic story about environment and the struggle to save it Dated with bad 80's music and limited sound Miyazaki Hayaoo

Atlantis Good animation and fun story with lots of action, first ever PG rated Disney animation May be too childish for some Gary Trousdale

Metropolis Incredible animation best watched on a large screen Based on classic Japanese comic I found hard to get into the characters Katsuhiro Otomo

Animatrix Showcases industries best talent in 7 shorts Short stories, a couple are so-so Various directors

Ninja Scroll High octane action, best kung fu anime by far Sorta teenagish, can cross the line of bad taste on 1 or 2 scenes Yoshiaki Kawajiri

The Wings of Honneamise: Royal Space Force Interesting sci fi story about first space orbit Slow, lacks a lot of action, hard to find on DVD Hiroyuki Yamaga

Fantastic Planet Old school French animation sc-fi bizarre in a good way Slow, may be dated artsy fartsy Rene La Loux

Millennium Actress Light hearted disjointed story line May grow tired of gimmicks after a while Satoshi kon
Finding Nemo Only pixar movie I would ever recommend Pixar Andrew Stanton

TMNT Great effects and a lot of attention to detail, great movie for Turtles fan Childish, production company pushed budget to max but was still low budget. Movie too short for content Kevin Munroe

Wallace and Grommit Curse of Ware Rabbits Great Looney Tunes like humor with an English accent, lovable characters, light harted Wallace and Grommit are great short stories characters, a feature film is kinda pushing it. Villain was annoyingly insignificant. Steve Box

Flushed Away Hilarious great relationship comedy, very fun original jokes like the frog on the cell phone Maybe to light harted very little substance if at all David Bowers

Watership Down Very dark and interesting movie Not for kids and dated animation technoology Martin Rosen

Appleseed Incredible action and monumental scale and destruction, very interesting sci-fi theams and incredible animation Overall plot weak and predictable, tired utopian story Shinji Aramaki

A Tree of Palme Very well done deep storie and stunning animation and bizzare visuals Very muted colors, story drags, nothing really new as far as the plot, charactars are very unlikeable at times Takashi Nakamura

Paprika Very original, disjointed mystery scenes challenging to watch Very bizzare, movie's plot may just be an excuse for Kon to go wild with his visuals as always Satoshu Kon

Capitain Herlock I consider this Japanese Manga anime in its golden age, space ships, monsters, magic, action, hot girls, zombies and all the characters you would expect. This series manages to be more than the sum of its parts. Director would later go on to make Metropolis! Dated cell based for TV anime Taro Rin

Karas the Prophesy Great action and animation on sets and effects stereotypical villains and heroes, very stale Keichii Satou
