It makes you wonder how they've managed to stay online. You'd think that a site as blatantly illegal as Galbadia Hotel would be taken offline eventually, but it's managed to stay online for quite a long time now.

Yer IRC is old school internet, pre the www. Though luckly most IRC servers have added a BT tracker as well now days.
I did find a good guide for mIRC when it was only way i could find last exile at the time. But never managed to find it again :-/. Though tbh if i find something on IRC i tend to keep looking nowdays
Man im glad Isanfan gave me back that link, im currently sitting at work listening the Totoro soundtrack, it very relaxing for working to.

IRC is after the net. WAAAY after the net. 0_o
Anyway, it's not really that tough. But seriously, before BT, IRCs were the only true place for leeching. Of course, I leech more than anime and music, so that's why.
Even now, I trust IRC more than BT. You just need to know where to look.

What you mean "after the net". After the internet obviously (because it needs TCP/IP protocol to work) but well pre of the world wide web that only came into existence in 1993. IRC i think (but not sure) has been around since the 70s, but definitely before 1993.

IIRC IRC (ha, that's funny!) is of the BBS and newsgroups era certainly, at least waaay before anything with graphics.
