I just came across this as one of those weird "You might also be interested in..." things Amazon adds to your profile. Googling for it, it looks to be a fairly lightweight high school romance angst thing.
It's only 13 episodes and the DVDs on Amazon are dirt cheap right now. The US release with Japanese/English sountrack is by Right Stuf (who are not the best quality anime marketing company).
Has anyone seen it and could give a thumbnail review for me please?

I've seen it. Wow, what a surprise 
The general idea of Boys Be is to tell a romance story from the guys' point of view, although it incorporates quite a few of the girls' as well.
The main story centers around Kyouichi, who begins to fall for his childhood friend Chiharu, who is taller, sportier, friendlier, and in all aspects, better than him. But the newfound feelings tears them apart rather than together, being new to the love game, and the distance begins to grow between them.
There are several other couples as well, although there's a main group of friends where the drama focuses on. There's a separate story for every character, each unique and interesting in its own way.
Best among them IMO is the final story where Kyouichi meets another girl with the same name, and the story of Yoshihiko.
It's more of a soap drama, actually. Not exactly spectacular, but not something I'd turn down either. Me, I like it for the stories in the series.

It's not superficial, and definitely not silly. Can't say about the gushing part though.
Was one of the first anime I watched when I started this hobby, which is a fairly long time ago, but I'll tell you this: it's got no exaggerated anime silliness that I so loath. It's a drama, and rather realistic at that.
Quite sweet, I recall. Best description I can find for it.

I watched this ages ago. It was nice. There was drama but it had a mellow feel to it and some of the stuff was really sweet. I wasn't a big fan of the artwork but meh, it's worth the watch if you've got time.
@Roar: That story with Kyoichi and the other girl was my fave too ^_^
