wow there really is too little talks about animes now and then, i mean no one have said anything for a while now, we got to keep studio ghibli alive and always in our heart. i mean try to remember the first time you guys watched a production from studio ghibli, isn't it still unforgettable, yes it really is that good, and i think that we should always remember it and not let it die out. japan rule and they make the best animes, no other country can compare with them. just recently i saw, on your mark. and i was shocked it was amazing too good for words, its not everyday that someone can create something so good. there is just so many messages in the show and emotions jumping all over the place, and thats how it should be all of us feeling just that excitement its so great being alive. watching anime and sleeping and dreaming is the only thing thats keeping me going in life. yeah so with that little pep talk what do you guys think about next ghibli production, howl's moving castle, i heard from venice its really good and that we shouldn't miss it. i like to hear a response from some of you, give me your opinion keep it alive.

If ppl want to talk about anime, here are anime boards out there. And there is only so much we can discuss about ghibli while we wait for the next movie, considering that they only have like 13 movies only.

And oh, despite a lot of good reviews, there's also a considerable number of poor reviews. IMO reviews are nothing more than opinions and should keep it at that, not as a meter to judge a movie. Unfortunately, lots of ppl tend to see reviews as accurate, and when they see it in a different light, cry foul at the reviewers.

On a lighter note, doubt many ppl have seen it, but i for one am looking extremely forward to seeing it next month when it shows here in my country.

EDIT: Ey, im a papa panda now Too bad it sounds too R&B for my liking.

First- RK, I think I can agree, at least to an extent, about most reviews being simply opinions. But regardless- isn't there a difference, say, between someone liking a film because it's good, and someone liking a films simply because it's in their favorite genre? I think it's ok for a reviewer to not like a film as much as someone else, but personally I think it's bad reviewing when a reviewer writes a negative review of a movie for primarily technical reasons- as in, the reviewer doesn't like or understand the genre, etc (which seems to happen often in the anime genre by reviewers in America). I personally think anyone who would write a negative review of a film like Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke either had a bad day when he wrote it, or didn't watch the movie closely enough. Both films carried out the director's vision- what should be judged is whether the director and animation team accomplished their goals and satisfied their standards.
But in the end, yes, reviews should never be taken too seriously. I've often read reviews that gave negative scores to the film, and upon reading the review, I realized I'd probably like the movie.

Geez, that was longer than I meant it to be...sorry...
Moving on...

The first time I saw a Studio Ghibli film was sometime early this year, I think January. I had heard of Spirited Away and was very intrigued by its premise and the massive critical acclaim it had recieved, but I never got around to renting it. Then my eight year old sister brought the film home one day from her uncle's house, and I watched it with her.
I had no idea at the time, but the film I was watching would become one of my absolute favorite films ever. I was really blown away by its artistry, its imagination, and the intense symbolism and depth in the imagery. The story was too episodic, but whatever. Minor complaint, since it really doesn't take much at all away from the beauty of the film.
I gushed about it at length here, if you wanna read more thoughts- http://www.connexionsmusic.com/blog/2004...-animation.html

A year ago, my top ten list of favorite films would have been drastically different than it is today. Ghibli was sort of my gateway to other anime, but even as such, I'd still say Ghibli is the best animation out there.

The first Ghibli production I saw was Spirited Away in the cinemas. Spirited away was the first japanese anime to show in swedish cinemas and reach a larger quatity of people. It is pretty safe to say that interest for japanese animé is is blossoming in my hometown.

Anyway, after spririted away I hafe had time to delve into the rich stories of not only ghibli, and discovered masterpieces like Metropolis, shows like serial experiment lain, and now I watch the beatiful and tragic Haibane Renmei. I watched animé before spirited away, but had somehow only touched the surface with (for short-lived entertainment purposes only) shows.

Watch it again maleek, SA is a lot deeper than u think.

You might want to catch JinRoh if you're into deep stuff like that. Be warned that its a pretty depressing movie, but as realistic as it can get, and i dont mean just the action scenes.

Thank you Roarkiller, I will look into JinRoh.

And I don't think that Spirited away lacks anything really. I think it is a beatiful movie that goes as a classic.

Some people don't like SA because of its lack of violence. The only thing that sucks about it is the Disney dubbing. I can't believe it was Lilo who got to do Chihiro's voice! Anyway, Walt Disney was a Fascist...
