I got this plot summery from IMDb, the movie web. I hope it helps.

Plot Summary for
Panda! Go Panda! (1972) More at IMDbPro »
Panda kopanda (original title)

When her grandmother goes away on a trip, 7-year-old Mimiko stays at home by herself in her small, friendly village, unafraid of burglars. When she arrives back home from the train station where she saw her grandmother off, she discovers she has a visitor-a baby panda. She quickly makes friends with the young panda and names it Pannie. She later meets Pannie's father, a large panda she calls Papanda. She dubs Pannie her son and Papanda her father, and the three become a happy family with their own big adventures.

There's an answer. She's playing house with the pandas. The elder panda (an early model of Totoro) is the father, she's the mother, and the baby is the baby.

It's unfortunate that we in the west are unable to recreate the innocence behind the Panda-Kopanda stories. Considering the nearly daily tales of pedophilia in the papers, a story about a young girl left on her own who is approached by an adult male anything whom she subsequently plays house with has a slightly disturbing tone.

It's actually two short films. They are old -not only pre Ghibli, even pre "Heidi"- the animation and backgrounds are rudimentary and the tone very childish, but some of the Ghibli spirit is present. Sort of a Totoro pre-draft - and there is a flooding that anticipates some scenes from Ponyo. There is a recent spanish dub. http://www.zonadvd.com/modules.php?name=...e&sid=14274

Judging from my experience, this is specially apt for little children (say, from 2 to 5), they get hooked immediately.

Is Panda go Panda worth US$31.00???

I found it available, but not sure if I want to spend that kinda money for a relatively short movie, even if it is by ghibli... (This would be the main reason why I'd buy it)

Oh, btw, English dub or sub...

I've seen a recent release in the UK at a normal DVD price. I'm surprised there isn't a similar US alternative.

It's not really by Ghibli (more than 10 years before), but we know what you mean. No idea if it's worth or not. The ony thing I can suggest is to check that it includes the two movies (they are 30 minutes each one, approx).

I don't know the english dub, but, being a movie specially pointed to little children, I'd go for the dub.

I have seen it, actually I think the UK's label Optimum Releases has released it now. I saw it in the Fame store the other day.
Haven't bought it because I already spend too much money when I'm there

But...I saw it a few months ago on the computer, and I liked it. The two episodes are short and simple but so cute. You really notice it is a starting 'project', but is is cute I really want to buy it soon, for my collection

I have seen that one as well, for the UK. But why they also haven't got Dutch/French releases? Most of the time the dvd's we buy here are a collaboration between Holland and Belgium and France. But now...no Dutch release at all Why not???
