YAY Cindy and Don Hewitt have answered many of Ghibli's fans burning questions about many things in the second interview. Copy and paste this link: http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/intervi...rview2.html .Too bad that there aren't any plans for Only Yesterday and Ocean Waves/I Can Hear the Sea to be dubbed. Also no plans for a third movie in the wave three of dvds.

You can use the [url][/url] tags for links.

My greatest disappointment is that Ghibli is not interested in releasing iits museum shorts (Aww Kittenbus!) . But it is a surprise that they are dubbing Ghiblies 2 (which should be a part of the Neko DVD). Do you think they are gonna to dub Ghiblies 1?

Ya I actually sent an email to the people at Nausicaa about some of Ghibli's other productions.

-- 1. What movies will be in the next wave of Disney dvds?

While there is no absolute list as yet, it is very likely that "My Neighbors the Yamadas" [1] will be one of them. We posted a news article about this movie recently [2].

2. Would it be possible for you to include some short films released by
Disney as special features on them particularilly "On Your Mark", "Mei and
the Kittenbus", "The Sky Coloured Seed", "Ghiblies", "Koro's Big Day Out",
and "The Whale Hunt"? I know these aren't part of the original deal between
you and Ghibli but I would just love to see these.

While it is possible (some of them being more possible than others due to various rights and such) that one or more of these may eventually be included in the Disney-Tokuma Deal [3], Buena Vista/Disney would not be at liberty to discuss these possibilities with anyone outside the deal.

3. If you are going to release all of these short films, could you dub them
in english (except maybe "On Your Mark"
Thank you very much! And also thank you for releasing these movies in region 1.

It is unlikely that any of the short films shown at the Ghibli Museum [4] will be released on video while Miyazaki is alive as he has expressed the opinion that he wants people to see them in a theater, not on TV.

Hope that helps to answer your questions. (^_^)--

It probably doesn't say anything that you didn't already know but still... I hope that they release at least On Your Mark (I now see that it would be impossible to dub this but I still like subtitles only a little less than dubs ). Have you ever seen the Ghibli episodes? I would really like to see them and wonder how funny they are. Also, in the email reply I got from www.nausicaa.net I wonder why Miyazaki wouldn't want Ghibli Museum shorts availible to the masses in any way. I know that he has said that he wants us to see them in the theatre and not elsewhere but it has been so long (to my knowledge) since they have actually been in any theatre.

Edit: I sent this email to nausicaa.net and asked them to forward it to Disney. Just to clear up any confusion you might have had .

Edit 2: I sent this email a little while back so that's why it says that there is no definate list as to which movies will be in Wave 3 (I sent it even before Disney made the statement concerning the releases of Pom Poko and Yamadas).

Thanks for your answers on the questions.

I don't think there is much possibility of seeing the overseas release of On Your Mark. After all, there is not even a DVD release of the video in Japan. And I suppose Ghibli is not holding its rights.

Miyazaki never has any interest in having any of his works leaving the theatres as video releases, not even the feature movies. And he only intends to make a movie that is good enough to recover the whole production cost from boxoffice alone.

The 3 Ghibli shorts are still shown occasionally in the museum. But even if they are permanently replaced by other shorts in the museum theatre, it would still be quite difficult to see them released as DVDs.

I find that quite selfish of Mr. Miyazaki. Now please keep an open mind because I know that you're a fan of his (and so am I) but if those museum short films are never to be released on any format of video then how can fans of Ghibli outside of Japan who chose not to spend thousands of dollars to go to Japan see them? Can Ghibli make those kinds of decisions (to release movies on video) without Miyazaki's consent or does he have most of the power over that choice? Well I hope that he changes his mind otherwise 95% of Ghibli fans will never see those films.

Being a Ghibli fan of course I would really, really like to see the DVD release of the museum shorts together with On Your Mark. But if it is Miyazaki's own decision, no one can change it, except Takahata and Suzuki.

Nevertheless, the Ghibli staff has its own reasons for not releasing them. These shorts were made solely for the museum theatre at the very start. They deliberately stand strong against the video release of the shorts because it is one of the uniqueness and charms of the museum. And it is a fact that many of my friends went to the museum just for the sake of the kittenbus film.

If it is expected that the films will be released as DVDs few years after, they will have extra gains in those release, but the revenue of the museum may decrease. I believe that they have done their maths, and know which is the more profitable way (in both monetary and non-monetary terms).

As fans, frankly there is not much we can do.

Well... I guess I can see Ghibli's point of view in monetary terms. But I think that at least the films could maybe be shown at least at a children's film festival somewhere in North America. I don't think that this would hurt the museum's revenue. Unfortunately, I think that if I saw the shorts even once, I would go crazy knowing that I wouldn't be able to buy them. It really is a dilemna . Maybe someday I will go live in Japan for a couple of months and go to the museum and see all the shorts. In other irrelevant news, my free bonus Ghibli dvd (you can mail order for one if you buy Disney's releases of Cat Returns, Nausicaa and Porco) finally arrived in the mail after three months of waiting . I got Castle in the Sky.

Hi-I have a specific question about the dubbed version of Kiki's Delivery Service...does anyone know who sings the song about flying (I apologize-I don't even know the title...) but if you watch the trailer, it's the last song...

Thanks!

Sidney Forest, I believe. However, I've only seen the dubbed version once, preferring subtitles.

That's Sydney Forest. The OP is "Soaring" and the ED is "I'm Gonna Fly."

Thank you both so much! It's been killing me-I love the song.

And I will watch the subtitled version when I can.

Thanks again!
