After I had finished the whole story of Nausicaa, there was a strange and tight feeling (ready to explode? ) from my throat down to my chest: a mixture of being moved, stunned, amazed... And my head was filled with the questions and topics that were brought up in the story. It was the first time that I had such an experience after reading a book, let alone a manga. So that's how it became my all-time favourite, and how I got converted to the Miyazaki fandom.

Yea I think the skeleton of nihilism is some kind of thought within the mind of Nausicaa. It initially pretended to be the Dorok monk with Chikuku in the temple so as to gain Nausicaa's trust (or Nausicaa initially perceived it as the monk, but then had her eyes unclouded?). Anyway when Nausicaa refuses to submit to its ideas, it shows its evil appearance. To me, the scene of little Nausicaa with blood facing the skeleton is really one of the best-illustrated scene of a character's inner-struggle.

As for the garden, I also hope that what you said about it is right. It is a brilliant collection of prehistoric art, and at the same time a paradise for the extincted species. To me the Master of the Garden seems to be an intelligent, but lonely and depressed soul, who was forced to take up the work of looking after the garden ever since he has arrived at that world. Nevertheless he has tried his best and made the garden a wonderful place. Maybe his attempts of luring people to his garden, to a certain extent, are made out of his desire of a company?

Btw when Ohma was dying, he asked Nausicaa if he had become a good person. Nausicaa did not give a definite yes or no, just praised him for his various fine qualities (bravery, gentleness, etc). Do you think Nausicaa was indeed avoiding the question?

P.S. to nanashi: hey we haven't seen your comments yet

A quick question (sorry I haven't posted for so long) about the blue blood of the crypt and the Ohmu. I've only just realised that we humans have blue blood until it becomes oxygenated- look at the veins in your arms, amazing isn't it! Perhaps Nausicaa was not so different from the insects after all? what do you think?

As for the Ohma question, I don't think Nausicaa deliberatley avoided the question no although it's difficult for me to decide whether Ohma had become good by the end.

Umm... As far as I know deoxygenated blood in your veins is dark red, while the oxygenated blood in the arteries is bright red. The veins themselves are white in colour. But with the diffusion of light through your body and skin, and with the dark red stuff inside, they seem to be blue in colour. The red colour of the blood comes from the hemoglobin of the red blood cells. The iron in the hemoglobin changes its shape when bounded with oxygen molecule. This alters the frequency of light, and makes the blood more scarlet. (to put it simpler: rusted iron has a more red colour)

But well, just like Ohmu, Ohma and other organisms, Nausicaa and the post-apocalyptic humans were the "creations" of the pre-historic humans, thus I tend to believe that all of them had blue blood in their veins.

I do think Ohma had a good heart, and good intentions behind his motives and actions. But whether his motives and actions were good in themselves, I am not so sure. Though he portrayed himself as the judge of peace, he tried to use the most unpeaceful ways to bring about peace.

GAh! thanks for nothing mr biology teacher. I was under the impression that blood before oxygenation was blue but when we bleed the reaction is so emmediate that as soon as the blood comes into contact with air it turns red. But...Hmm red blood cells are red aren't they..not blue...
Well I'll just go hide in shame.

I do not know the true thing. but I have decided from former times.
Before being exposed the air, the blood is blue.

Blue clad one has appeared when Daikaisho occured 300 years ago. maybe.
blue of that time, is that color of the blood of Ohmu?
does Daikaisho relate to Blue clad one?

Yea blood is always red, but in different tones of red in different environments. Here is a nice page that you may find informative :

For the Blue Clad One in the Daikaisho before Nausicaa's age, not much about him (her?) is mentioned in the manga. And I have no idea if the "blueness" of the one in question comes from the Ohmu blood. Maybe s/he was a sort-of guide that led people out of the Toxic-Forest-engulfed towns?

possibly, aren't all matters what the pre-historic people planned?
periodic Daikaisho, being beforehand (planned..) for purifying the world.

is it accidental for Blue clad one to appear?
in order the factor which resonates to Ohmu, being installed. the fact that it reveals quite probably is low probability. Ohmu, Daikaisho and the person like Nausicaa, are one of planned matters.
(Jiji said similar thing?)

Ah hello again, just wondered what you all thought of the Nausicaa movie, if you've seen it. I got it from Japan recently and I actually really like it. It really adds to the manga for me. What do you think?
