I enjoyed them a lot. I checked out the singer's other band, and I think I prefer the more complex style of her new project.

I've been listening to a whole lot of きのこ帝国 lately, which can only be described as a cross between My Bloody Valentine and Radiohead. They are seriously awesome, possibly the best Japanese rock band I've come across. I love the lead singer's voice.

I'm glad you enjoyed the ones I posted! I'm not really a fan of a lot of j-pop either, but I like MEG. She just released a new album which is very grandiose and dramatic, and at least to me seems very surprising for a j-pop album.

I listened to your track too. It has a very creepy atmosphere, which I rather enjoyed, but I think I'd have to listen to more to know for sure what I think. Definitely interesting though.

The one I posted is one of their darker, noisier tracks. They've got more accessible stuff too, though it all tends to get pretty loud. I think I just posted Eureka because it's the single from their new album. My only complaint about them as a band would be that their lyrics can get a little hilariously emo at times, but I can only understand the words if I focus really hard, so it's not usually a problem!

Dragging this up for a couple of bands I've been enjoying over the past few days: Haruka to Miyuki and Gesu no Kiwami Otome.

Edit: I've noticed FFF mentioned Indigo la End earlier. Gesu no Kiwami no Otome have the same singer/guitarist (I think the bassist may be the same too) but quite a different style.

I've enjoyed a lot of Japanese music, but the only one I know the title of is by the English title, "Sukiyaki"

Looked it up in Wiki...

"Ue o muite arukō" by Kyu Sakamoto,aki"...

It was a #1 song in the US in the 60;s I believe...

Ahh, I know that one too - the original name is Ue wo muite arukou. Wasn't it used in From Up On Poppy Hill?

Thanks for the memories, arren...

As to 'poppy hill', I don't remember offhand. I'll have to rewatch it.

I suppose this is relevant: provided I can convince somebody to go with me (I'm too self-conscious to go alone), next weekend I might be able to go and see Chirinuruwowaka, a band I mentioned here a while ago. I hope I can go!

I hope you get to go, if not with someone else, then by yourself. Think of it as like being here in the Tavern. We are all different, but we are all here because of a love of Ghibli Studios. You would be at the venue because of your liking for this band and others will see that and respect that. After a bit, you would likely feel more comfortable. True, a few won't see beyond the person, but that is their problem...

There are fewer people watching you than you might think.

Go! And Enjoy!!

Correction: Nobody's watching you at all. Or judging you. Think about it in reverse: do you ever pay so much attention to any one particular stranger who isn't actually doing or acting or even look out of the ordinary?

Actually, roar, that's probably true, come to think of it.

You bear some very curious and indefensible views. People are judging total strangers and slight acquantances and business partners and politicians and churchmen and soldiers and criminals and the "stinking rich" and the "whinging poor" and "over paid footballers" and footballers wives, even their own family members constantly. All the time. How else do we get dumb stuff like road rage? Because some eejit judged another person and translated that judgement into mindless anger.

People might not judge Arren for attending a social event but the idea that humans are not judgemental against their own kind is nonesense.

The issue is not of being judged for turning up at all, but rather that when I don't have friends with me, I feel more uncomfortably aware of all the things that I do - so that while going might be fine, I'd feel very conspicuous and it would really affect my enjoyment.

So I did go to the concert! It was really great and so much fun. I met up with some other friends a while later and went to karaoke, so I'm pretty worn out today.
