I would like to play it, but I have no PS3 and the DS version wasn't released outside of Japan. However, as I'm in Japan now I might try and get the DS game, though it might be a bit hard to understand...

I have the game as I'm bit of a gamin nut with x box 360, ps3, ds and pc.

The animation is brill but as I'm stuck ha ha I have started again so I still know very little on the rest.

I would be thrilled to see this game manipulated to be made into an actual film though

As for me, I am not a gamer, played some when the kids were growing up, but not since. Zelda, Donkey Kong, Mario Bros, etc. I loved Asteroids and the caterpillar one and Tank Battle on the pay machines in the arcades...

I'm not much of a gamer these days, but I have seen it being played by others. The art and music provided by Ghibli and Hisaishi is beautiful, but the storyline is not really quite up to the same standard. Not enough to get me playing games again, but probably good enough for gamers to enjoy.

Ah, it's a shame to hear the story isn't so great. Is it fun at least? I really liked the idea of the DS version coming with a book of how to draw the different spells on the touchscreen.

If you generally like Japanese RPGs then it's probable that you'll find this one fun too.

In my case it was more of a case of "Is it good enough to get me back to playing games again?", and it didn't quite get there for me.

Well, today I found the special edition of the DS game with the nice book in a shop for 950 yen, so I bought it! I haven't tried it out yet, but I'll let you know what it's like when I do.

I got this game a few days ago, played a little but not had much time to play with college and that. It's a beautiful game so far, look forward to it.

My friend said he is like 80 hours in and about half way, apparently it's a long game.

Which one did you get, the PS3 version? I'm not sure how different they are from each other.

And 950 yen is around $9.50, so maybe a little over £6.

I got the PS3 version yeah, funny the game must not be as popular as they assumed. You can tell the popularity of the game, by the price.

It only came out here February last year, it was £40 up until a few months back, I got it for £17.99.

Hi everyone, I'm extremely honored to join your circle.
About the untranslated Ni no Kuni: Shikkoku no Madoushi for the Nintendo DS, I am actually working on an English translation with two awesome graphical editors and the lead of the Spanish translation team for this game (which is very close to being finished).

Said translation will be applied as a separate file (kind of like sub files downloaded on the internet for movies), to the rom image of the game.

There's the issue of the physical book (this DS version is different enough from the PS3 version that neither the localization nor the -different- PS3 book will be useful, sadly). For now, we plan on making the game by itself self-sufficient as possible since the book is required only in a few select spots, and obviously for runes. We'd try to include a tiny readme with the solutions with the translation patch file. Maybe later we'll do as our Spanish friends and include a txt file with a textual translation of the physical DS book, but this is not (yet) our priority.

The one thing hindering our efforts would be the lack of translators.
We hadn't have much luck with that, a native Japanese speaker did with us some menus before disappearing, and three more quit due to real-life concerns (some without leaving any life signs).
In the end we have nobody left besides our initial team, only parts of the menus translated, but none of the main scenario dialogues (nor the side-dialogues, for that matter)... since we're not really fans of machine translators or Japanese>Spanish>English translations.

I hope there's people more fluent in Japanese interested too in getting this game (one of the highlights of the Nintendo DS) the translation it deserves. Thanks a million in advance for any help in repairing this big injustice.

Really sorry for double-posting, the forum wouldn't accept the reply otherwise.

Some proof-of-concept screenshots (very approximate translations, not final screenshots)

gbatemp.net/attachments/5400-ninokuni-shikkoku-no-madoushi-japan-_29_25020-png.7168/

So far we took care of all aspects of the game's translation: be it the actual text, which we have dumped minus the control codes
(you can check it here
drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B6W1vjA4MkDTWW5VUjJNQzRtMU0&usp=sharing
)
, and which we can re-insert in the game in all its English glory, the fonts (including the Astram aka Nazcan alphabet), the FMV subs, or the graphics. Level-5 was planning for an English release and it shows: it supports English (and every other latin-based language with a few tweaks, for that matter) from the let go (so does Time Travelers by L-5, for some odd reason, but that's another matter entirely).

I thought there were plans to bring it to English already? Or was that just a rumour?

Probably just a rumour, unless it was a fan project. Only the PS3 game was released in an English version to my knowledge, so on DS it's in Japanese only.
