Anyone know who their gonna replace Miyazaki with? He still is retiring right? Who are they gonna find with the fantasy and magic touch infused with reality?

Actually, yeah, you can do that. Its how many now well-known anime directors began their careers, and some great bands were formed.

I imagine Ghibli won't attempt to seek "a next Miyazaki" but will continue producing work using their current crop of up-coming directors and one day someone will emerge who has a different take on how to direct the company. Miyazaki, like Walt Disney, will no doubt influence Studio Ghibli for the rest of its life but gradually younger men will leave their mark. I doubt it will be one individual though.

Ghibli was never Miyazaki on his own, and it will continue to be a group of varied directors just as before. Maybe none of them will become as famous and strongly-associated with the Ghibli name as Miyazaki, but then that's just how it will be.

Why would we want a clone of someone, we want new people to add their approach to the Studio Ghibli world

As great as Miyazaki is, and we all love his work, he is not the sole talent at Ghibli. There are others who are either very good or are getting there, IMO. Ghibli will survive.

Now that Hayao is retired, maybe he can spend time mentoring his son, Goro.

I feel that thinking that miyazaki takahata had will be impossible to replace. Practically because the world has changed a lot.

Today we know disney is just because it is a large corporation. It really tried to make sure the trend of disney princesses goes on. But for ghibli this will never happen.

Specially the trend in japanese anime or animation in a sense is toward very strange and awkward fantasy[like wolf children] or science fiction. The real life portray just does not have that appeal to mainstream audience.

I think the next ghiblies wont do any good business.

ghibli will most probably survive but it will change a lot in the coming years most probably.

And if you carefully watch many ghibli movies you will probably see that many moments are truly exceptional that you cant imagine. Like bird staircase in cat returns or clock scene in woth.

I watched a lot of films but this kind of feeling is exceptionally rare. I dont think in todays world people will get that kind of inspiration to really look into life , real life that is, in animation world.

So i think the next films will be more like arriety like.

But i sure do hope ghibli has a trump card or cards in their hand

However i do know a person who is exceptional, he is not from ghibli. His name is Wes Anderson. His name can be considered because he made both types of film.

1) I have no clue what you're talking about.

2) In the same way Disney Studios outlived Walter Disney, Studio Ghibli will outlive Miyazaki and Takahata.

3) The end.

He may have been a troll, but the post still has relevance. It's a good talking point as well.

I loved Arrietty, so I wouldn't be annoyed if films were like that. Every film will be different, sure the animation is more recent, and the stories different. We have seen that from Nausicca up to The Wind Rises.

I have loved the newer Studio Ghibli films, just as much as the older ones. The world is moving, we can't live in the past which means a new fresh approach.

I hope that Miyazaki's Hand drawn approach lives on, but I very much doubt it. As long as they have passionate animaters and writers, who love what they are doing and not for the money, we are going to continue to be treated every year by a company we know as Studio Ghibli.

Er, I was having this impression that Miyazaki was never a father figure according to Gorou, nor did he ever approve of Gorou being an animation director for Ghibli according to Suzuki.

Although that would be a nice way to get some father-son time in.

I enjoyed Poppy Hill. It's not among the best, but the setting and atmosphere are great, and it's well worth seeing. I hope you like it!

I agree with arren. It was an enjoyable movie. In fact, I just re-watched it about a week and a half ago... Sad and happy moments...

Yes, a big step up in technical competence for Goro. I really liked it.
