Kiki's Delivery Service Re-editPost Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Search for Posts by KikisBiggestFan Report Post to a Moderator        IP Address Go to the top of this page

Hi, everyone. I'm new here, and I'd like to say that "Kiki's Delivery Service" has got to be my favorite of all Hayao Miyazaki's movies. That's why I'm pleased to announce that I'm making plans to create a re-edit of it which combines elements from the 1998 English dub released by Disney and the 2010 edit of it, in order to please those who are purists that wish to see it truer to the Japanese original (such as myself) and those who have grown up with the original 1998 version of the English Disney dub. Does that sound exciting or what?

Hi and welcome to the forum. If you want to stay true to the Japanese original... then just watch the Japanese original and forget the mess of the 1988 English dub, it really wasn't a good effort and was done before Ghibli became more respected in the west.

Also anime characters talking in American accents just makes me shudder; its so wrong, especially when the sound of the spoken Japanese is so beautiful.

Really? You know, if we were talking about the English dub of "Sonic X" here, I'd agree with you, but from what I understand, the English dubs of Miyazaki's works really have a lot going for them and as far as English dubs go, they're quite exceptionally good in my opinion. Plus, this is a choice that I'm making and not only do I wish to make this re-edit for the reasons that I've already stated, but I also hope to either cut down on or fix the so-called audio 'problem' in the 2010 edit which most viewers say makes the voice actors sound like they're "talking into a fan". Just so you know, I own the 2010 DVD and I've downloaded a DVD rip of the 2003 DVD which includes the 1998 English dub released by Disney which they say has superior sound quality. I hope to get started on the re-edit tomorrow once I've ripped the entire movie from my 2010 DVD. I hope you can respect my choice.
