Okay! I just finished this up (on Arren's recommendation) and even though I lagged slightly about mid-season, I did end up really enjoying it.

It has a fast pace and frenetic animation style, as well as a fairly ludicrous plot, but it still managed to get a lot of heart in there. The characters are all fairly likeable, particularly Matoi and Satsuki, and they all show a fair amount of growth.

I was wondering if anyone else in the forum had seen it and had any opinions?

It's the first anime I've managed to complete a whole season of in ages, and I think it'd make for interesting discussion.

Haha, I didn't think many people here were watching it so I never bothered with a thread. Maybe more will try it out though! I think it's really worth it.

Anyway, I obviously enjoyed it a lot too. There was a lot of humour and the insane plot becomes really compelling. They also did a great job of keeping up the pace, which is essential for this kind of one-ridiculous-fight-after-another type of show. The characters are the most important part though, because ultimately they keep the whole thing going, and make even the most absurd parts seem plausible in context. My favourite is Mako.

It's a fairly popular show; I'd be more surprised if not many have seen it.

Admittedly, the concept and plot is pretty new and fresh. Most of these type of anime use fanservice to gain a fanbase, but this is the first time where the fanservice is the plot itself, of all things But hey, as one of the episodes mentioned, it's not Kill La Kill if it's not ridiculous and fast-paced, lol.

The bit where they said that was in the "recap episode", right? That part was a great gag.

I have this series on my HD, I just need to get around to watching it. I have reservations about the animation style, its not really my thing. It was directed by the same dude who made Gurren Lagann wasn't it? That too proved a bit too mental for me.

I empathise with you NC over struggling to finish a series. I'm in that position now with about 6 or 7 series and I'm finding it a chore to push on with them but my OCD won't allow me to leave them incomplete!

I struggle to finish things too, but usually because I take on too many and then end up being unable to watch them very often. It's a bit of a pain.

Kill la Kill was indeed by the same director as Gurren Lagann. I much preferred Kill la Kill, where I found the characters to be better written and used, and the plot to be more engaging. It's probably even more bonkers though.

It's pretty bonkers but not in a nonsensical way, which I think saves it for me. Like everything is really hyper and over-the-top but it all ends up justified eventually.

Mako was a really sweet character, especially because initially I thought she'd be so annoying but she actually ended up being really important in many ways. I enjoy all of the Elite Four and their relationship with Satsuki.

Given that you guys think it's worth it, I shall certainly give it a go. I just need to clear my "desktop" of some other things first. Get back to me in the autumn

For NC and any other fans - an OVA episode was released recently. It's set between the end of the finale and the epilogue part in the credits. I wouldn't say it's essential to the series canon, but it's pretty good fun.
