So I've been called as a volunteer to teach this kid at an orphanage. There was actually an earlier one with a teenager, but he needed tutoring with electrical engineering which I'm equally hopeless at so now I'll be tutoring an 11-year old instead. I haven't started yet, but anyway.

Having friends from a really wide age range thanks to the gaming community, it got me thinking: how exactly do you get yourself into the mentality of someone much younger than you? As anyone with teaching experience will tell you, coaching a ten-year old is so different from coaching a high-school teen. Especially as one not used to being around kids, suddenly trying to match the mental behaviour of a child is puzzling. Even in gaming (or teaching the rules), I sometimes find myself wondering if I'm being too childish or too mature when dealing with a young one.

So the question: How do you deal with kids?

I dont know about kids from developed countries[other than movies], from my experience of teaching, i think to understand a kid one need to understand his habits. and not force him to do something.

Creating the curiosity for something in them is important and most importantly they like gifts and that can be anything.

I have got three kids around me who are at that age range. however they are my family. so teaching a kid who you dont may be a little bit different.

and kids are very intelligent
