Hiya Tresi, welcome!

I also like Spirited Away very much. Chihiro is certainly another Ghibli heroine that can melt everyone's heart. I particularly love her tender, innocent, but also valiant character. The movie is one of the few that gets 10/10 in my book, with an effective and grasping plot, endearing characters, and dreamlike but detailed settings.

As for my personal favorite, probably you can tell it is Kiki.

Hi Jiji!

The characters are wonderful and the story was so great that I had to watch it twice, because there were still so many questions left to be answered

Unfortunately I haven´t seen "Kikis Dilivery Service" yet
Hope to see it in near future

Hello Tresi!

Spirited Away was my first Ghibli film too
I discovered it last year while watching 'CH4's Top 100 Cartoons of All Time'.

It came 8th, beating many Disney classics such as Jungle Book and Pinnochio. I'm ashamed to admit it, but at that point I dismissed it as a outright mistake. Later it ended up in DVD collection and was a very low priority. After slowly watching most of the other movies, me and my sister decided to 'get it out of the way'.

With the exception of some laughs, we were completely silent throughout the movie. At the end both of us were so stunned and simply looked at each other, embarrassed that we dared mock such a breathtaking movie. From that day on we've aquired quite a thirst for Ghibli productions.

Mononoke confirmed that it was hardly a fluke and Grave of the Fireflies demonstrated that Ghibli's talent extends beyond fantasy stories and the extraordinary talents of a single man.

Hi E_Hakki!

I also first didn´t pay much attention to "Spirited away" But then I asked my friend and we watched it together. The music is so wonderful^^
These films were awsome,Grave of the fireflies was so sad,I had to think about it for a long time...

Have you already seen "A cat returns"?

Nope, I have yet to see 'The Cat Returns' yet because I want to watch Whisper of the Heart first. I know its not a sequel per say, but I'd still prefer to watch it in that order. Thats why I've decided to wait, watching other movies/series in the meantime.

At the moment I've almost finished watching the complete Future Boy Conan series. Its pretty hilarious and moving at times, highly recommended if you can look past the slightly outdated audio.

No, it was never released in the cinema around my region :S. I wish Disney could put more effort into setting a firm and widespread international release, but I am grateful for the DVD's and some of their dubs so I won't complain ^_^.

The pre-Ghibli/Ghibli stuff I've seen are....

- Spirited Away
- Princess Mononoke (really like the English dub, btw)
- Nausicaa (usually dislike Patrick Stewart, but he makes a very good Master Yupa).
- Grave Of The Fireflies
- Porco Rosso
- Lupin III - The Castle of Cagliostro
- Kiki's Delivery Services
- Horus: Prince of the Sun (which I subbed myself before I knew about the English dvd release)
- The Flying Ghost Ship
- Goshu the Cellist
- 'Ghibli ga Ippai Special Short Shorts' and Music videos
- Ghiblies 1 and 2
- Puss in Boots
- Panda! Go Panda!
- Future Boy Conan
- Like the Clouds, Like the Wind (not pre-Ghibli/Ghibli, but made by prominent animation director, Katsuya Kondou).
- 'Chie the Brat' in French (but my French sucks!).

I also have Pom Poko, My Neighbors the Yamadas, Laputa and The Cat Returns on DVD, but I have yet to see them. How about you?

I think we're both lucky that we still have plenty of 'Ghibli classics' to experience for the first time . Oh and you saw Howl's Moving Castle in the cinema? Wish I had the opportunity, a friend of mine who lives in America said it was fantastic to experience a Miyazaki movie on the big screen. Hopefully 'Tales from Earthsea' will recieve a wider-release, although it seems pretty unlikely.

You´re right
Yes,I´ve seen Howl´s moving castle in cinema and it was wonderful,Ghibli Films have so much details, that it is just fun watching them on the big screen^^

For me it first was kinda weird that one of the main characters had become a grandma, but Howl is a great guy.

Î haven´t heard of "Tales from Earthsea" before, but it sounds interesting, what is it about?
Well,I´m sure you´ll get the chance to see a Ghibli film in cinema some day

I sure hope so .

You haven't heard of 'Tales from Earthsea'? Well, its the newest Ghibli film announced - set for a Japanese release this year (in July). Its being directed by Miyazaki's son and will be based on the 'Tales from Earthsea' book collection, mainly focusing on book 3.

Read more about it here if you want -

I'll probably read the books over the summer when I have more time and yes, the poster does look very nice, especially since I love mythical tales with dragons, etc .

Hope the trailer will be online on 24 February, then we'll get to see some actual footage.
