Has anyone seen this film? Is it any good? It's written and directed by Sunao Katabuchi, the writer for four of the five Miyazaki-directed episodes of Sherlock Hound (six episodes (the first six episodes, that is) were produced at Telecom, five of which were directed by Miyazaki and one which is attributed to Miyazaki but was actually directed by Nobuo Tomizawa and written by Toshiya Ito, but I digress, sorry), and the assistant director for Kiki's Delivery Service, so of course a fanatical Ghibli fan such as I would be interested.

From the very limited number of votes (and one comment) on imdb, it seems to be an excellent movie -
http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0306474/

Here is the official website -
http://www.arete.jp/arete/index.html

It was subtitled and premiered at some film festival under the obscure title - 'The Clever Princess'

Hope that information helps.

I have only seen the film being mentioned for a few times in some obscure anime sites. At first I wasn't remotely interested and didn't pay attention to its production crew and what the story is really about. But after seeing the trailer, it seems to be quite interesting. The drawing style resembles Toei's late 60-70smovie productions, which is quite a fresh breath when almost every anime protagonist nowadays has gigantic eyes and other common features. The story sounds Ghibli-esque enough for my taste. A pity that the price of the DVD is a quite steep (6300 yen).

From the reviews at Animenfo, it was reputed as forgettable and boring. Looking further down though, you see one or two reviews talking about ethical questions raised in the story and the sort.

So basically I'm thinking it's something like Ghost in the Shell without the action.

The only fansub I dug up was Solar, and it doesn't have strong seeding, so getting it online is a near impossibility without unlimited patience and unlimited broadband. Highly suggest getting the DVD instead if you really wanna watch.

Few leechers, but reliable seeds...100kbs is very reasonable. So if its ok to download (i.e. not illegal?), go for it!
